The article author does a pretty decent job of pointing out the ridiculousness of some of the theories, as well as the perverse incentives on the part of social media companies. But at no point does he actually make a case that it is "destroying society". I guess the reader is just supposed to assume that a few internet trolls are somehow powerful enough to destroy everything humanity has built in several millennia.
Worse, he does make the standard m5m argument - the one that boils down to asserting that truth can only flow from "real journalists" - meaning those working for corporate legacy media. This also is presented without evidence or rationale, of course.
