It's interesting that people perceive motorcycles as dangerous but cars as safe. Obviously sitting on top of a 100hp engine that'll do daft speeds and potentially backflips is not something you can call safe, but you are unlikely hurt anyone else. Collisions involving motorcycles and cars tend to be caused by car drivers, collisions between motorcycles and pedestrians or cyclists are really uncommon
So what we have is one thing that is dangerous for the person doing it, but creates a safer environment for others, and another thing that is safer for the person doing the activity but creates a less safe environment for others

It's an attitude of safety as something you create for yourself, vs safety as something we create as a society. I think you can see this dichotomy in a lot of other discussion
