back in 2020 I converted a bunch of old Video8 tapes via a Digital8 camcorder which involved the signal chain of Thunderbolt 3 > Thunderbolt 2 > FireWire 800 > FireWire 400 (4-pin). Still worked great into Final Cut Pro on my Apple Silicon Mac!

Beware though, all FireWire support has been removed in macOS 26
