Honestly, it feels to me that the shit Nolan is best at is the shit that people perceive as "singular genius."
He's not known for the performances of his actors. He's not known for detailed & creative production design. He's known for his little plot-puzzles/surprises (did the top fall? Is whats-his-name still in a dream?) & big, fancy IMAX shots.
