It seems Rachel Reeves has bowed to what has become a Treasury convention & decided the way to raise taxes without making too much noise is to (continue to) freeze income tax thresholds (what is termed fiscal drag), thereby allowing wage inflation to drag more people into the higher rate tax bands.
If this sort of approach makes a sort of sense it also serves to demonstrate that Rachel Reeves remains a mainstream, conventional Chancellor & the Labour Party is out of fiscal ideas!
