Don't map western notions of 'demon' directly just because of the word. Gwi-ma's realm doesn't operate on a sin-ledger, but spiritual corruption (even tragic) literally transforms people into afterlife entities (including 'demons'), who then perpetrate a cycle of condemnation on the spiritually weak or compromised.
