Your problem about not enough use as money is legitimate.
That doesn’t mean spam is not also a problem.
We should fix both problems.
Folks are working on improving spending - look at what Square recently did to accept payments at many small businesses.
Spam is disincentivizing node running and driving centralization. BIP-110 is a very small cautious step in the right direction to mitigate spam. We will need to keep doing more periodically, but it’s a start.
