Imagine raising capital from private investors to open a grocery store. 💁‍♂️

It's opening day. You have the best products in town at the best prices. People show up from all over. Business is booming for the first few years, so you take the company public; everyone wants in. The shareholders are loving the quarterlies, so everything is amazing. 🥳

However, one day, you realize that you miscalculated the operating costs & small losses have been accruing over time without being immediately apparent to anyone. You decide to keep it quiet & take some shortcuts here & there until the books are good again. Nobody will notice. This process continues for some years. Customers start to notice. Slowly, but surely, investors slow their investment. 😬

Fast forward. People show up to the store. They look at the produce & it's all fucking rotten because you raised the thermostat on the chillers to save a few bucks. There are rats chewing through all the cereal boxes because you fired most of the maintenance & janitorial team. The rice has weevils all throughout it because you had to source a cheaper supplier to keep up with margins. All the canned goods are dented to shit, so they're riddled with botulism. 🫠

Word gets around town. People stop showing up entirely. You are completely unable to sell a single product. But the investors still need their payout or they will dump all their shares & completely bankrupt the company. 🤷‍♂️

So you buy all of the products yourself to hide what's happening from the investors & you can show them a clean balance sheet & avoid them sending the stock to Hades. 🤫

That's basically what is happening to the US dollar. 🤙
What the hell kind of financial fuckery is a long term debt buyback?
