oh that's really interesting. so if I'm understanding you correctly - doing full screen updates/repaints (the kind you'd see on an ANSI-based BBS of yore) are out of the question, because they're too expensive to send/receive.
while your invoking of the accursed demon's name is deeply offensive, it absolutely makes sense. one line by 80 cols instead of 25x80 is a huge savings
