initially a dance student under the tutelage of isadora duncan, elsa made her film debut in 1925’s ‘the scarlet woman’. HG wells wrote THREE silent film shorts just for her in the late 1920s & by the early thirties, she’d joined her actor husband, charles laughton, in hollywood, where she made numerous telly appearances & acted in over 70 films. her last was role was sophie in1980’s ‘die laughing’, just six years before her death.
