The berthing fees have increased and bunkerage is impossibly expensive BUT Venice does not put this money into the local population or even replacing the ageing vaporetto fleet - it goes into impossible capital projects fighting the ravages of global warming like inflating the timbers under Doge Place i.e. preserving the place for an exclusive few. If the fresh water from the annual snow melt keeps declining it will be a moot point anyway.
