I don't mind the tiny screen and using the app to drive the radio through my phone, but the standalone devices have been critical in showing how the mesh radio works without centralized telecomm. Even putting the phone in airplane mode still has some people skeptical. The LilyGo T-Deck gets it through to those types.

I will say battery and antennas have both been an issue. If you have a pocket sized device, but the battery needs semi-constant charging, then you don't have a reliable device even if it's more portable. Increasingly I prefer solar nodes just because I worry about the battery less.

I got some big honking antennas, but often they don't fit onto the 3D printed cases. I plan to eventually start modding things more, but that's not where I'm at current state. My main radio I gave a "car" antenna and just have it permanently pointing out the big window as I can see the entire town from the hill I live on. I think it's been good for the network. It's not portable really anymore, but I almost think having non-portable radios on key hills around town is better for the overall network.

That's my thoughts on that 🤔
