Cash is back (sort of), for a range of reasons, but mostly among older consumers; and this despite banks' best efforts to make using cash and difficult as they can (not least so they can skim off transaction charges for e-payments).

However, given young people's rediscovery of all sorts of vintage tech, perhaps they'll next 'discover' cash?
