Though mid-June it's been a very slow start to Alaska wildfire season. To June 18, just under 7400 acres (3000 ha) have burned, less than 10 percent of the median over previous 33 years and the fifth lowest since 1993. With warm weather and thunderstorms this weekend across the Interior, new fires are likely.
