The point is that we won't fix the oncoming catastrophe by replacing the one billion old ICE cars with one billion new EVs, particularly when 2/3 of our energy is still coming from fossil fuels.
Degrowth would be the only solution: getting rid of private cars, animal agriculture, aviation, and the like, and living much simpler, less consumptive lives.
That sadly isn't going to happen, but I'm still not buying any sort of car.
