Is there anyone who makes an argument that like "yes, computing should be sustainable, but hardware sucks cause it's fragile"? Not like the 100-year computer thing, but like the 20-year button. Like HCI but for people who hate when shit breaks? I think there's an ethos amongst the tech-oriented that hardware should be modular and/or easily repairable. I think all switches should be rated for 10 million presses before they should be allowed to be sold. There's way too low of a standard for cheap components, I'm just not sure how to couch that in a perspective that doesn't somehow relate to my health/death OCD. I'd very much like to explore existing arguments around this because it's a little expensive to complain to my therapist about physical interfaces as failure points.
