During the production of the first "Star Trek" film ("Star Trek: The Motion Picture" - 1979) -- on which I was working at the time -- I suggested to a higher-up that the Enterprise wouldn't actually be piloted like a WWII battleship -- it would all be computerized by then. He stood there thinking for a few seconds. Then he replied, "Lauren, you're right. But if we did it your way, we wouldn't have a movie." And he was correct, of course.
