The assembly people were eventually wrong. But the point was always enabling much more complex and useful systems. And of course, compilers frequently do better assembly than humans.
The java people are still wrong, and with the RAMpocalypse, extra wrong today.
Because the point of Java was to force code that looked clean to managers...
LLMs do vastly worse code than humans, and also cause humans to be worse at code, and so the sneerers are very correct.
