Reducing "Bitcoin usecases" is not just about reducing the cost to run a node.
I think the most important part is to make Bitcoin as simple and close to perfect money as possible.
This should make intuitive sense.
We want as few malincentives as possible, as little bloat as possible, and as few unknown unknown as possible.
As I wrote in this post years ago:
