So you agree that what we have in the USA now is not a free market, and thus…not true capitalism - but rather an oligarchy. Though we agree on that, I must respectfully disagree with your stated belief that #DemocraticSocialism cannot co-exist with at least some aspects of a free market. Giving over essential services like power generation, healthcare and public welfare to the state, and thus protecting them from the profit motive, just makes sense - on every level. There are plenty of free, democratic countries that blend both private and public ownership quite successfully. I have been a small business person and entrepreneur most of my life, and I love the competition and innovation that comes from a free market for my work. But at the same time, I believe that corporate greed and predatory practices should be kept out of essential services. The only thing standing between the people, essential consumers, and corporate greed and exploitation is govt. regulation.
