after reading this thread I had to re look into what [@phanpy](https://hachyderm.io/@phanpy ) is doing vs what Mastodon is doing. The fact that everyone is doing this slightly differently is sort of a nightmare.

looking through the WordPress icons you have available you could do the same as Phanpy is doing

seems like there isn't a moon icon in WP icons but I think the one Mastodon chose makes zero sense for this either.
