my dad and I both lived in some real pits while going to Cal, so we're both like, honey, if we need to give you some extra support (money or crash space or whatever) so you can find somewhere to live and go to school such that your housing situation isn't a big stressor, we'll do it
he and I both feel that was so detrimental to actually getting an education
and this kid has been so diligent about paying so much of their own way
