From the white paper: "If a majority of CPU power is controlled by honest nodes, the honest chain will grow the fastest and outpace any competing chains. To modify a past block, an attacker would have to redo the proof-of-work of the block and all blocks after it and then catch up with and surpass the work of the honest nodes."
And "As long as honest nodes control the most CPU power on the network, they can generate the longest chain and outpace any attackers."
Would you say this still holds today? Or do you not care about it either way? Would love to hear your thoughts about that.
In my opinion: It was economically naive to not anticipate pooling, but I don't think Satoshi did either. He was a very smart guy undoubtedly, but there are limits to what anybody can anticipate on paper without actually having launched Bitcoin yet.
By the way, Bitcoin changed every time we activated a soft fork from 2008 onward. I just mentioned Taproot because it's the problematic one. So you're dead wrong it's the same then as now. It would more accurate to say Bitcoin has changed many times in the past and will probably change again in the future.
