This is a director-level position at the EFF, ostensibly the only rights organization that is supposed to be watching out for people’s online freedoms, and they are casting shade on the idea that there’s any kind of institutional censorship. Even though anyone who has ever been subject to censorship knows that it all happens in a coordinated fashion. You will lose every single online account at once. Even though we know that the Biden administration contacted social media companies to provide lists of accounts to suspend. I personally am the beneficiary of the EFF, and am extremely thankful for the work they put in on my appeal. I have regularly encouraged people to donate to the EFF and will continue to do so. But this is insane, and the organization is losing focus on important realities of censorship. There are a lot of people within it that think “making the internet safer” as the article she promotes describes (statistically a code phrase for making sure affluent and powerful people are not exposed to public criticism) trumps our entire history of 1A jurisprudence and our common law heritage. Eve, you know I was not banned from Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and the entire financial system in December of 2016 for any of the “safety” issues described in the article. I was banned for being an influential supporter of the lawfully elected President, and a dissident on racial and religious issues. The timing and coordination across so many institutions makes it impossible for there to not be a centralized authority directing the censorship, and you know it.
