Scarier is that afterwards too many do the Stockholm Syndrome thing and try to pretend it was all the right way to handle a pandemic.
They even see nothing wrong with POTUS contest between two people up to their eyeball in the insanity, one of home was the POTUS that shut the country down taking more freedom from Americans than ever in history. Neither apologized. Neither promised never again. They both bragged about it.
The majority of the rest of the people just want to forget. The next time their freedom is taken away they will go "oh we survived OK during COVID so we can go along to get along with this". Which was probably an important desired outcome.
