kokoro and pocket are slightly ahead of realtime with just my laptop CPU so i can pipe them directly to ffmpeg -> opus while playing the opus file in mpv.
chatterbox is not so fast so i had to wait. (for the amber books i used a custom script that turns fountain in to json files, ninjabuild to orchestrate, and the "build" was curl firing off the json as a request and getting the wav back. it was slow and did not benefit from batching or interleaving voices, either, which some production model harnesses can do but i just used their R&D image :neocat_up_paws:)

something i've been noticing is the older nostr relays were very open (strfry.) then the engineering work was on scaling the synchronization of events.

intel's svt can do real time but it will eat a 8-core machine to do it.
but yes someone actually tried some shit i talked about a year ago (using ML models to predict filter chains.) they only did it for the variable block partitioning but they reported 60% speedup.
some unrelated literature talks about things like optical flow analysis (for motion prediction steps) can also be done with ML models.
seems the theory of using a 'perfect' encoder to train a stack of heuristical machines is correct.
