i use "darknet" as a convenient term for sites that are exclusively offered as hidden services.
also "deep web" is SUPPOSED to refer to any sites not crawled by search engines, but that includes many normal day to day websites and thus it is kinda meaningless, and is also often confused for what "dark web" is supposed to mean making this word worse than useless.

matrix has always been so damn buggy [in my experience] (regardless of which client). and the decentralization is much worse, as the organization developing matrix is encouraging everyone to just use their official matrix.org server and afaik doesn't even list alternative instances at all, while the xmpp organization refers people to independent lists of xmpp instances. if a majority of the people here would be using matrix.org, i would be refusing to use matrix at all and insist on xmpp.
