Historical safety is the biggest problem here, IMO. I can envision some NIP-17 use cases where it is of paramount importance. It's tough, but I think I'd vote this proposal down.

The test relay in question is just allowing all kind 24133 after succesful auth. No whitelist checking. I ask because Amber v6.2.0-free is posting the following error when attempting the Add a nsecbunker option and manually adding the test relay:
auth-required: you must authenticate before publishing events.

When normies report stuff, they don't know the root cause. All they now is that Amber isn't working with some apps. In my case, I only raised the issue with you when I couldn't get Amber to NIP-46 connect to 3 different clients. Yes, could be a relay issue, but when each connection request comes with 3 different relays, normies start thinking about the common denominator.

Looks like they just threw in a few public TURN + STUN defaults. May or may not work depending on your region/network. They don't work for me. You can input custom TURN, but right now every @nprofile…wywf update is erasing custom values.

Somebody (don't remember who) talked about a solution where a nostr DM client keeps a single background connection with one DM relay. If that connection has issues, it automatically tries another relay from the kind 10050 list. The idea is to keep only one connection persistent to conserve battery. Possible to implement in Amethyst?

I'm assuming that at scale some fragmentation will occur due to undiscovered 10044. But technically you are correct: In a perfect network there would only ever be one encryption-only key pair. With all the issues Marmot has been having with key package discovery and reconciliation on NOSTR, I think 10044 will suffer a similar fate.

What's wrong with NIP-17? In my experience it works well. Use it daily across multiple clients. Nospeak is my go-to lately. Marmot, on the other hand is just too early. For all the hype, even the reference implementation (White Noise) is still horribly unreliable at the most basic functions & feature incomplete. At Marmot's current pace, I think it will be at least another year before they catch up to the reliability & features of NIP-17 clients.

I like it because I think it forces the WOT folks to re-evaluate the signal value of a follow. It doesn't necessarily imply trust. I just use follows to create a feed.

If you genuinely think there's a problem with my relays, hit me up in a DM and I'll investigate. FWIW, I test lots of different NIP-17 clients with my current kind 10050 list. If a client has issues, I always swap relays to make sure the relay is not the cause before raising issues with the dev.

Well, after a device reboot, it magically started working! 🎉 Still has issues, though. My friend's Samsung phone never receives notifications when screen is off, and messages are sometimes delivered out of send order.

Just updated. Amber seems to work, but message reliability has not improved. If anything, it's worse. Tap to send and messages just disappear. No errors, no feedback. Recipient never receives.

@npub1mar…p7hd some feedback on UI/UX as 1st time user: On desktop when adding more than one photo, lower elements (like Back and Save button?) are pushed off screen. No scroll is available for that pane, so I'm left guessing how to advance to the next step. Ended up clicking on the next tab in the tabbed sequence.

@nprofile…hded any tips for GrapheneOS users? A few months ago, tracking was sort of working. Now with v1.4.7 it appears to be completely broken except for the Android step counter. FWIW, Organic Maps (Open Street) has no trouble recording tracks on the same device.
