Credit bubbles go until they can't anymore. Bitcoin isn't here to kill fiat. It's to be an Ark so that when fiat implodes under its own fragility, there is a monetary asset with sound money principles and means of exchange that are permissionless and verifiable over long distances in a very short amount of time.
Arguably the more people opt out of fiat, the sooner its fragility gets to it, as the whole issue is that it is backed by an indefinitely large web of rehypothecated real collateral.
Calling it fiat is something of a confusing point I suppose, because it's really just credit -- ledger money, and not technically the same thing as true fiat which only draws value by mandate (and is actually even worse). The taxation mandate plays a role, as do reserve type requirements, but it is still more a promise that in the future these notes will be accepted for real shit.
Even in antiquity when ledger money was in broad use, largely before gold had been monetized and other commodity money had other drawbacks (such as spoilage or supply issues), debt jubilees would be the pressure relief when these systems would become unsustainable. The issue with a debt jubilee though is that you are at the end of the day robbing the ones who are saving their own resources and financing economic activity (with more or less corruption and exploitation of course) and they're keen on avoiding being the bag holder. Sound money provides a solution that requires no one to hold the bag, and the jubilee to not be required. If you have a hybrid system, you end up somewhere in between which realistically is more likely. But prohibitions on riba/usury have at times had us closer to sound money than others.
But yes, it sounds like you're calling out the cartoonish oversimplification (one of many I hear often). Monetary literacy is quite low. Even in Bitcoin where it's better than average I'd still deem it sophomoric.

While they should see a jury if caught, I'd be lying if I said I want to see the idea that Bitcoin can't be used privately given any more steam.
It is admittedly harder to get much of an anonymity set when you're trying to hide hundreds of bitcoin though.

I guess always is a long time. Arguably though, prior to having a deep state pulling strings based in Europe, there just was no deep state though. Just some statesmen and wealthy Americans, and average folk. Though I think it's unlikely there was ever a time that they weren't being approached by European power brokers. The whole civil war was fought for the South's right to sell goods directly to Europe so as to carve out America's industrial base and keep us as an agrarian colonial outpost after all.

The attacks on them by the state to implode society were mostly the fun ones. Encouraging hedonism, divorce is liberating, leaving wealth to your children will spoil them, so spend it all!
They did have 'nam. But not WWII, as their parents had. And not a lack of housing affordability, as Gen X somewhat had, and millenials very much ran into (and presumably zoomers just huddle under bus stops but they have tiktok).
For what it's worth, each generation of fiat has it worse than the last -- that's sort of how it works. The boomers at least got in while the currency was sort of kind of almost gold backed (the real gold standard ended in the 30's with 6102, but the Eurodollar system that carved out Bretton woods didn't really build up steam until they at least were getting some productive assets -- and in many cases even owned homes).
They're gonna get annoyed at the salt though, because aside from some of the psy-ops, they largely see what they got as having come from an improved productivity through technology their generation did indeed help create -- they just didn't get wildly debased because their wealth was already heading strongly into assets. Prior generations, however, would have had more of a difficulty becoming as wealthy because the younger generations would have provided competition in the market place -- what boomers got instead was future generations that had no choice but to pay them rent. Rent does seem to be the root of the resentment.
We'd go a long way by removing a lot of the tax benefits of real estate ownership. I don't quite think we need to address anything about rent inherently, but the idea that you're going to be subsidized in your endeavor to withhold living space while demanding ransom for it is a bit silly. I'm not holding my breath on that happening with a real estate tycoon in the White House though. AOC will probably do it, but also while raising the fuck out of all of the taxes and killing productivity in the first place.

We like to pretend it's impossible to reverse the fiat system and get back to full collateralization of the iou's, but if you think about it like a household balance sheet it's not that hard to see that it is possible -- it just requires a lot of discipline. If you're in a bunch of credit card debt, but can work productively enough to pay your interest each month and a portion of your principle, however small, you'll eventually get out of debt.
The same goes with a national balance sheet. They do have some tricks up their sleeve though, such as being able to lean heavily on the interest rates they're charged, and requiring that to do business with others in a society, mandating institutions to hold government debt. It'd be like walking into a bank and not asking for a loan, but rather, telling them they're lending you money, and by the way that it'll be at 2.0% if they'd like to stay in business.
That they're ever NOT able to manage their debt is just a sign of just how grossly irresponsible they are when it comes to managing their (our) finances.
We'll see where it goes with their push for stablecoin adoption though, and the economic warfare. DOGE's spectacular failure notwithstanding, it does seem like there's some sincere desire to actually change the long term trajectory in the current administration that hasn't really been there in over a century. I don't remotely think they'll have anything balanced by the end of this administration's term or even likely the decade (we'll see about next decade) but it is a big ship to turn around.
It will be interesting to see to what degree they use bitcoin to ride a wave of collateralization, and to what degree bitcoin is used by those looking to escape from their system, as BOTH of these things are happening, making bitcoin something that can simultaneously be working for and against the efforts of the fiat hegemons.

The thing about fiat is, there are many fiat systems that are interconnected with somewhat separated economies. You can very much have most of them die off and have their resources picked over for pennies on the dollar, and in the consolidation, be left with one or a few systems that actually are more or less close to collateralized. This seems to be more likely the playbook being used in the economic warfare we're seeing. Particularly with things like the Yentervention which involved dumping Euros to buy Yen. Europe has had a big red X painted on it, and is being targeted for pillaging in hopes to prop up the dollar as its assets get reappropriated.
There's a lot of pseudocolonies that become a lot easier to jump on once some of those nations are dealt with.

It's technically possible to reduce the supply of dollars without totally running into massive issues with fiat, but at the stage we're at, it'd be a very slow grinding process and need to involve real economic expansion to offset the reduction in actual money supply. Given MV=PQ (monetary stock times velocity = price of goods * quantity of goods), if you drive up the quantity of goods while reducing the supply of money (and expanding the velocity of it), even if your prices fall a bit, you can avoid the situation where there is on net a bunch of debt being unable to be serviced.
It would require a drastic increase in efficiency, both by cutting wasteful malinvestment (most of government spending) as well as technological achievements. It's the sort of thing Bessent is trying to say we're going to do when he says "grow out of it" on the assumption that AI is going to make us more productive (even while we refuse to let it do what it's good at, let alone before we figure out how to make it good at doing what we really need).
Practically speaking you're more likely to run a 2 minute mile. But it's within the realm of physical possibility.

I'm not sure I follow. Frostr lets you rotate out your key shares because of the frost stuff. If you remove that, you're just looking at something like nos2x.
Or is your concern what happens if the FULL nsec is compromised? In which case, I do have to agree that it does still leave you without any recourse.
Seems like the benefit is that it reduces the attack surface on the nsec by not having it all in one place.

It definitely is, and it has a lot of footguns that I don't dispute.
I would like to know how else you'd consider bypassing a situation where any object on you can be expected to be removed from you while still maintaining custody of your coins.
If there's a better scheme that meets that use case I'd say we can dispense with it entirely. So far though, it does remain the gold standard for not needing to juggle optical disks, paper print outs, or risking online encrypted transmission of wallet files (unless you're gonna use Electrum's mnemonic words, but they're not really any better).

It's finally cooling down enough to go outside! What you need is a good pile of wood to split. It'll warm you up while you split it, and then again when you burn it.
You could use a hydraulic splitter if swinging the splitting maul or axe around isn't your speed, but that does take most of the fun out of it (as well as a good chunk of that initial warmth).

I like the idea of a history show, but think Bitcoin history may be more narrow than you could be helpful in covering (though it is indeed important). Monetary history, particularly things like the advent of the Eurodollar system, the move from LIBOR to SOFR, the petrodollar arrangement, and things like the repo market (and how it formed out of a loophole in the law to go on to become the primary funding method of banks and shadow banks world wide) would all be valuable lessons that a lot of Bitcoiners gloss right past because "fiat = the federal reserve", which is like the 8 bit color understanding, even if mostly sort of kind of true.
Idk, maybe a tangent, maybe something that just comes up when relevant in macro news, but I'm constantly grinding my teeth over some of the things bitcoiners have to say about this while getting the smug smirks from any of the macro guys that clearly recognize how low resolution most of our grasp is on the monetary system.

By all means, more private, more open, full gnu tools on a mobile device is great, and yea, in desktop move, give me X too. I have done VNC to a chrooted X session on my phone before -- the capability is all there. But if you're using it in your hands, X and CLI aren't a good UI. Android for the most part is.
I am annoyed at the audio focus though. I'm a weirdo that'll overlap multiple audio sources and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE on Android. Rocket Player let's you ignore focus and is how I've been doing it, but it has ads... yuck. Visual anyway, not audio.
It lets me play binaural beat tracks behind music I pull up on newpipe and things like that.

I used to think I wanted this. But anyone who's typed many commands on termux knows that you don't want a command prompt on your phone; you want a proper keyboard.
Having the ability to run shell scripts and use a Bluetooth keyboard is pretty key, but the Android/Graphene UI just makes more sense for most things on a mobile device. If anything we're moving to more voice, less typing, even from what we have.
I would like a subvocal keyboard though. Talking out loud is less than ideal in public or crowded areas.

The lack of BIP-39 support I think is a major point of friction. I agree it has technical downsides. It's also what people have chosen to use despite that because as far as a backup solution goes it is unparalelled.
They really should add the ability to at least import a BIP-39 key directly. I get I can make a wallet with Sparrow and import it to Core and be happily on my way, but the friction is enough to stop most people from bothering with Core at all. Refusing to include it doesn't protect users from footguns nearly as much as it ensures they'll use less optimal solutions in the first place.

Between the unverifiable supply and the history of successful hard forks speaking volumes about centralization, I consider it a bit like a Cashu alternative more than anything. It offers some privacy, but is for funds which would not be life changing if they disappeared.
I don't personally find much use for it but I could see it being handy for swapping through as an alternative to lightning or sub swaps for larger amounts, and things like that, where a coinjoin protocol alone doesn't leave you quite sleeping well at night.
Though, I'm very interested in some of what @nprofile…g27a has been doing with combining wabisabi, zerolink, joinmarket, and payjoin to address some of the short comings of each system. Taking real advantage of our low fee market lately.

At what point do we recognize that choosing not to include bip-39 in bitcoin-core results in the vast majority of Bitcoiners barely even recognizing that the Bitcoin Core wallet is a viable option?
I get not generating words, or making it a default option. There are a lot of drawbacks to BIP-39 that give people all sorts of ways to footgun. But given that it IS so widely adopted, and that the ability to back things up on steel is so highly valued, does it really make so much sense to say "just go use something like Sparrow"?
Would it be such a pain to add something like an "importmnemonic" command that takes your 12-24 words and a derivation path to a new wallet.dat? And is it that much better that people are being pushed to using less reviewed software in order to get it instead?
Nothing too strongly against sparrow, though i don't love the refusal to implement miniscript. Just seems like Core is being particularly stubborn on principles rather than acknowledging a real market phenomenon. Can't be too surprised as while the users are very much voting with their feet, there's no actual currency involved in this almost at all, so there's no price signals to drive incentives, but it does seem like we at the very least risk losing more eyeballs on the Core wallet code if it's just going largely unused, which in itself should be concerning (though...I'm somewhat sure it's more used in institutional settings beneath some layers of abstraction).
Curious if anyone's had thoughts or discussions about this, or if the matter was just largely considered settled after it got nack'ed the first time around.

Off the beaten path a little more though, I think it could be interesting hearing you talk with Jeff Snider (he's not so big on Bitcoin but is more tapped into Eurodollar mechanics than most, with some signals off the beaten path). Danielle Demartino Booth may be curious at some point -- haven't heard as much from her lately but she's got an interesting angle and of course has history at the Fed. Perry Mehrling is one who I think I've heard on one podcast ever, but who also has a somewhat unique angle on the monetary system. He's got a free course on Coursera called "Economics of Money and Banking" from 2012 and a whole subreddit (/r/moneyview) which says a lot for a college professor who clearly has impacted his students beyond the average (also author of a few biographical books). He's more of a central banking guy but is at least Bitcoin aware and I think could make for an interesting take on things and the way you discuss macro (and importantly, provide perspective for your audience).
It'd almost be amusing too if you chatted with Jack Farley if only because the two of you had shows almost identically named for a minute there, (Money Matters vs Monetary Matters) but he's mostly a name in the space as an interviewer and I'm not sure where things would go as an interviewee. Heck I'd almost rather hear you on his show but it may be slightly off his beaten path.
In any case, love hearing about the constant evolution of the show. Onward an upward.

Though yea, I don't think we have quite the upside potential those did. After about 250x from here we hit a market cap of about half of the assets on Earth (in terms of today's dollars anyway). After 500x we eclipse them.

Covenants without a soft fork rely on presigned transactions. If they're single sig cold storage, it can be circumvented.
If it's multisig though, yes, they do solce a fair bit. Arguably the tx may be easier than backing up all the descriptor stuff.

And yes, realizing economic weight means that the fiat rich can use that to throw weight around is hard. Satoshi didn't ignore this though. Its why the coins were so rapidly dispersed at the beginning before they could notice. People may sell to them, and are more than I love, but it comes at higher costs than we sometimes remember. The best way to fight the suits is to stack, get your neighbors stacking, and don't sell to the parasites.
But...once they have coins, they are market participants, and you don't get to tell them they're second class citizens. Any more than you get to tell the silk road fentanyl dealer or the backpage hooker who are both now filthy rich how to live. That's sovereign property rights at play.
The 110 side always seemed to want to talk like this but with a more collectivist ethos. Freedom is a lot messier.

I'll try to find some time to read more of this tomorrow in any case. I appreciate people being willing to simultaneously revere tradition while also being bold enough to step into the future with it. And it seems sometimes harder to do with Islam because it is so new, and the book still preserved in its original lettering with so little wiggle room (aside from the endless arguing over Hadiths).
Though I also say this as an outsider, so take that with a handful of salt.

Nice! I'm in the process of setting up an airgapped raspberry pi 4 (it used to be my node, but in lieu of a UPS I've since just moved the node back to my desktop and have it just syncing nightly to avoid filesystem corruption from power failures). Sounds like you made yours more user friendly than I'm bothering with.
Did you take steps to disable any networking interfaces? Curious what that entirely looks like and how it differs to play with on a laptop than on something like a pi where the hardware is all 100% known ahead of time.
I almost like doing something myself though -- makes it that much less likely someone's gonna just throw together a doctored SD card that'll be similar enough that I won't notice but malicious enough to do anything. Seedsigner is great but if someone wants to hit you with a malicious SD card it's not THAT hard to swap out the malicious SD card and leave you none the wiser. Good luck knowing the list of changes I make to my system...

It's a rough estimate of money supply. I say rough for the same reason the Fed stopped targeting M2 money supply and switched to Fed Funds targeting: it misses a LOT, especially in the modern credit based world we live in, particularly where the chains of rehypothecation in the offshore banking (and shadow banking) system know no end. For instance, you'll perhaps notice that nowhere in M2's definition is there any mention of marginable securities sitting in brokerage accounts, which can provide cash purchasing power instantly upon demand to those who are willing to take on the risk.
That said it does still tend to have some positive correlation with Bitcoin price. For better assessments of total liquidity though Michael Howell and Nik Bhatia tend to have more robust frameworks.

Also, wild caught salmon sushi is eyebrow raising for me. Salmon is not traditionally sushi fish, and only became sushi fish because of Norwegian farmed salmon not being as common to run across the parasites found in the wild stock.
I suppose perhaps those parasites may be more common in Japan than other places, but the idea of paying more for the wrong sort of fish in sushi seems particularly egregious to me.
Yellow snapper isn't one I see much so that's probably a pricey point. I'm still shocked at anything over $40 though -- maybe $50 if you're including tip and any meals tax. And I'm accustomed to Boston prices -- not exactly a cheap backwoods.

Btcsessions once did a video on dice, and made use of a straight edge to push them into a straight line so there was no ambiguity.
Makes sense as long as your dice are balanced enough (most are, casino dice notwithstanding -- or at least differently imbalanced enough that amid 5 of them you'll get positional randomness to mix it up).

You can derive the raw hex from 256 bits of binary entropy. Amber will let you import that raw hex so you can even just stop there.

One of these guys used to run up my pant leg to be fed by hand. Most were a little more skiddish but they'd come close, and a few would eat by hand.
Lot easier with city squirrels. Out here it'd take a lot more work, and with 3 dogs, not a chance. I could get some of the rabbits to play nice if not for the dogs.

We're arguably talking about two very different aspects. You're talking more about maxi tribalism. Which I would in many cases call antithetical to the essence of toxic maximalism as an ideal, which should be uncompromising adherence to principle rather than devolving into groupthink.
I know we don't see eye to eye on Monero, and what you do with it is frankly your business and not something I think we need to hash out at every interaction -- and I wouldn't say that's me rejecting the principles of toxic maximalism.
I would generally reject multi coin tools because they're not focused. Whether it's that they're using monero or ETH or running a word processor on them is almost beside the point. I'm actually somewhat surprised that someone using monero would be interested in somethingblike Cake wallet for the same reason.
Arguably I think this may have more to do with Unix philosophy than Bitcoin anyway. Do one thing and do it well -- i'd rather have more things and make them work together as I want rather than one thing that does everything in ways I can't control or audit easily.

I'd still go with dice personally -- its just easier to audit. But bitaddress has been solid for a long time and if you really just can't bring yourself to playing yahtzee with your bitcoins it's a viable option.
Just remember, as with dice, you want an AIRGAPPED computer. Really, to be safe, one that won't ever go online again. @nprofile…em7z pointed out on his show this week that you can get a laptop for $35 or so these days...if it comes down to it, buying a laptop to generate a key on and destroy is far better than doing this on your phone or regular laptop.

To be fair I'm not sure anything might be perfectly good. Even Glacier Protocol hopes there's not firmware malware on bother motherboards of your two eternally offline systems if I recall correctly.

I certainly don't have much regard for the party. And do have to say that while absolute private property is a nice idea and all, we have a few thousand years of disputes to make that matter as clear as mud.
Throw in absolute individualism being at best a larp and yea, I can't get behind pigeonholing the ideology.
That said libertarian leaning is usually accurate enough. I really try not to worry about what everyone is doing and worry more about effectiveness in both accomplishing my own goals and overcoming or circumventing obstacles whether they're natural or the result of statist silliness.
Never gonna convince people who prefer domestication to toss it aside, and they'd probably fall on their face if they tried.
