Can anyone suggest a way that I might be making a mistake in the idea for my next book? Here it is.
200 years after a global catastrophic failure of humanity's fossil-fuelled societies, a small community of shipbuilders and sailors starts exploring oceanic trade with a big wooden cargo ship. No engines or electric motors. Sails only is their technological level. No motors or batteries makes sense to me, but do you think it might be a mistake?

#WordWeavers 1st Feb 2026. Who is your most despicable character and how do you feel about them?
The sinister, narcissistic, all powerful antagonist in my first novel, Gifted. He was a piece of shit, similar in many respects to the adult sexual and emotional abuser in my childhood, whose power over his victims was like strong magic. They're both dead now. They are nothing to me. Writing Gifted was my unintentional self-therapy. It involved shadow work, and was my introduction to that practice.

When relocating a snail, do so by gently pushing him forward or gently tapping on his hut, so that he withdraws himself into it. Yes, very telling. Since I came home from sea, I've put my roots down in the West Country, which is a lovely land to live upon. Voting? They yo-yo between blue and red tories, so bollocks to that. I vote green or independent socialist, whoever is on the ballot sheet. If I were in Brighton I'd be happy to vote green, and I think you and I would be 3D friends. In my perfect world, I would live in Ireland. Next time around I believe I will.

#Hygge is integral to my pagan practice. I write about it in several of my novels - which are my activism - as well as living it in my daily life. My version of hygge is tied with the philosophy that to be a #witch is to be political. I can't be comfortable and content when a tyrannical regime is deliberately harming innocent people. So I live with the aim of hygge, and can achieve it in small comfortable ways in my home and heart while maintaining it as a target in the wider world.

This is my natural sleeping pattern, a first sleep from about 11pm to about 2am, an awake time until about 4am when I often work mentally on whatever book I'm writing, then a second sleep until between 7 and 8am when my morning starts. I too have personal experience of war. I did twenty years and saw several conflicts, the final one breaking my body and rendering me housebound by constant pain for the rest of my life. I don't wear a poppy, for exactly the same reason you don't and your father didn't. I bless his memory.

I'm not American, but if I were I wouldn't join the Democrats because of their support for the genocide in Gaza. The despicable tory-fication of the Labour Party here in the UK shows what happens when progressives hold their noses and vote for the less bad option in a two-party system. My solution is to burn the system to the ground.

Until you posted this I hadn't heard. I'm thinking my timeline is silent about it because people are generally peaceful but if that stain on humanity is removed they'll go yeah, okay.
