#Pachli Current now highlights the hashtags you follow. Within a post any hashtags you follow are shown in bold. The info area above a post shows a hash-marker and the first followed tag in the post.
This helps answer the "Why is this post in my timeline?" question.
The attached screenshot shows an example with the #mastodev hashtag.

@nprofile…8fvp Hmm, this is two problems.
1. Pachli should not be showing the translation menu option on fedifreu.de because the server can't translate. That's a Pachli bug, I've noted it at https://github.com/pachli/pachli-android/issues/2173. Thanks for raising this.
2. The 503 error from anoxinon means the server is rejecting the translation request. That's definitely a problem that @nprofile…2vgg will need to investigate (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Reference/Status/503)

@nprofile…8fvp Getting back to your original question -- if translation is failing on anoxinon.de Pachli should show an error message at the bottom of the screen when that happens. What does that say / can you send a screenshot? That will help understand the problem.

> While the library is free to use it is not open source. As some Pachli users may want to avoid proprietary libraries this feature is not present on Pachli installed from F-Droid or GitHub. If this is you then you can skip the rest of this section.
That's why Pachli gives you the choice of where to install from.
To forestall the next question: I was unable to find an open source library with similar functionality that worked reliably.

https://fedifreu.de (if that's the other server you mean) doesn't support server-side translation. Tusky doesn't support on-device translation, so if you want to use translation on fedifreu.de you'll need to use Pachli's on-device translation support (https://pachli.app/pachli/2025/08/28/2.16.0-release.html#support-on-device-translation-if-installed-from-google-play, only available if Pachli is installed from Google Play).

If "How to translate" is set to "Server only" it's possible your server is having an issue with their translation service. /cc @nprofile…2vgg in case they need to investigate.

The latest #Pachli Current (3.4.0+29a96332) is rolling out now with some notification improvements
1. Notifications about a post will always include the "action bar" under the post so you can reply, bookmark, quote, etc directly from the notifications view.
2. #accessible #talkback actions have been added, and the descriptions have been improved to provide a better experience.

As part of refactoring work to make implementing quote posts easier, #Pachli Current is rolling out with UX improvements when you interact with posts, especially favourite or boost.
Previously, the icon would change, but the associated count wouldn't. So you could have a post that was boosted but showed 0 boosts. Now the number changes as soon as you press the button. When the boost completes on your server the post is also updated to reflect it's latest data.

Still working on UX improvements around emoji handling. Right now, writing a post and inserting an emoji shows the emoji shortcode (first image).
But it's probably more useful if it shows the actual emoji image, right (second image)?
Long-pressing an emoji in the emoji picker to see a larger version of it is probably useful too (third image).

@nprofile…tsy4 As others have noted, this requires server configuration.
At the moment Pachli doesn't do this (automatically or otherwise) because
1. Pachli only talks to the server(s) associated with your account(s). Contacting unrelated servers on your behalf is something that would need to be behind a setting.
2. Having the servers do this is, architecturally, much better.
3. I haven't done the work...

Although now you mention it, with on-device translation now possible an option to auto-translate anything that's not in your preferred language isn't a bad idea...

Coming to #Pachli Current in a few days - support for translating posts on your device.
Helpful if your server doesn't support translation, and can be used to translate posts your server refuses to translate.
Won't be available in the #FDroid and #GitHub releases, as this feature uses the same non-free Google machine learning libraries as the "Warn if you're posting in the wrong language" feature.

The latest #Pachli Current now remembers your reading position on the Local and Federated timelines.
If you're on a busy server and reopening them after some time you can use the "Load newest posts" menu option to jump to the top (or change the settings to make that the behaviour when tapping a tab).

Hey #Pachli translators -- I've just enabled a Weblate setting that should show your "translation memory" of any work you've done on other projects in Weblate show up when you're translating (on the "Automatic suggestions" tab).
Hopefully this makes the translation work a bit easier.

Do you use lists?
Today's #Pachli Current release improves their usability by remembering your reading position in the list, similarly to how it behaves on the Home and Notifications timelines.
Lists can be a great way to move content from some people you follow out of your home timeline and into a dedicated space, and of course, each list can be added to its own tab.

As long as you set the language correctly, people can choose which language(s) they want to see when they follow you.
That's not exposed in the Pachli UI yet, it needs to be done in the web UI.

@nprofile…tsy4 @nprofile…uuja @nprofile…h5n0 It's doable, but there's a risk of false-positives / false-negatives, because people aren't generally great at marking the language in their posts correctly.
The language detection Pachli already does can help, but it's also imprecise on short messages. That's OK for the language check when writing a post, but if it's filtering your timeline it could easily exclude stuff that you should have seen.

#Pachli Current users - as ever, thanks for testing. Today's release modifies the code that figures out where you're going when you open Pachli, and which account to use. This clears up some technical debt and paves the way for an "Account management" screen, coming soon.
If you use multiple accounts you'll notice the splash screen appears when you switch accounts so the UI doesn't flicker as the new account data is loaded.
Everything else should behave the same. Please shout if it doesn't.

#Pachli Current is rolling out the new media description UI for feedback.
Since the last screenshot some of the padding has been tightened up and the colours toned down a little. The image size adjusts to the device size to leave enough room for writing the caption.
Also, some servers report the actual max number of characters you can put in the description. If it's available that's now used, instead of being fixed to 1,500.
Feedback (after you've tried it in Pachli Current) welcomed.

What does "non-functioning" mean here?
No new posts appear? There's a check for new posts that never stops (i.e., the blue progress bar toward the top of the screen never disappears)? Something else?

Are you writing a post in Pachli and adding an image as an attachment? Or are you opening an image in another app, using that app's "Share" option, and then choosing Pachli as the app to share to?
In either case, what, exactly, happens when you do that?

Re the sorting -- it's sorted by popularity in search results and autocompleting when writing a post. But if you're looking at your list of followed tags I think it's better if they're alphabetical, so the sort is stable every time you open the screen (and you can predict where in the list a new tag will appear when added).
And yes, always new strings to translate :-)

#Pachli 2.10.1 has been released. This fixes the issue that could cause Pachli to crash if you had ever signed in with multiple accounts, ensures "Show anyway" works on filtered posts in all timelines, and shows all available languages in Android's system settings.

If you ignore the scrolling jankiness (that's trying to use a mouse to drag-scroll in an emulator) and UI oddity (the grey line appearing and disappearing)...
