Absolutely. Infinite growth even on this abundant Planet is a ridículos concept to brush under The table.
The challenge is how to prepare people to think now about alternative ways to stay gainfully employed in the ( near) future. You can learn a lot in 2 or 3 years of hard study. If coders, accountant, middle managers etc didnt start yesterday, start today.
And whatever one's view of government, as a Major connecting force within society, what they do to educate people Will count too. Obviously they are viewed as useless but somehow they manage to persuade the education system, particularly at university level, to teach what corporates want them to learn.
I'm saying this as an advocate of Bitcoin, but as was trotted out a few years ago, do you want to be on the wrong side of the trade en route to a Bitcoin Standard, and do you want to be the only one in your neighbourhoods not going through the bins, watching on, thinking how lucky you had foresight. .

We tend, as humans, to complain about change rather than examine the reasons behind it. The rise of AI is a perfect example. Much of the public reaction assumes that automation is inherently destructive—as though removing jobs automatically removes meaning, dignity, and social stability. But that assumption deserves scrutiny.
If David Graeber had written a book called *Meaningful Jobs*, then the prospect of AI dismantling large sectors of work—especially those involving words and numbers—would indeed be alarming. It would suggest a direct assault on human purpose. But he didn’t. He wrote *Bullshit Jobs*—a critique of the vast number of roles that exist without meaningful contribution to society.
If Graeber’s thesis holds even partially true, then eliminating a significant portion of so-called “productive” jobs might not lead to societal collapse. Many essential functions—food production, logistics, healthcare, infrastructure—would continue. Life, at least at the level of basic needs, would go on.
History offers small-scale examples of this. Entire categories of work have disappeared before: milk delivery routes replaced by supermarkets, paper rounds eroded by digital media. These changes disrupted livelihoods, yes—but they did not destroy society. Where is the nice lady at the telephone exchange putting you through working now? Typing pools? People adapted. Often, they were quietly relieved to leave behind low-paid, monotonous work.
A more recent case often cited is when Elon Musk drastically reduced staff at Twitter. Predictions of immediate collapse were widespread. Yet the platform persisted—imperfectly, perhaps, but recognizably intact. The gap between expectation and outcome raises an uncomfortable question: how many roles were truly essential?
Similarly, layoffs at Block Inc. (formerly Square), co-founded by Jack Dorsey, were initially framed as technological cruelty—AI displacing workers. But a closer look suggests a more complicated story: pandemic-era policies inflated payrolls to preserve employment during extraordinary conditions. What followed may have been less about AI “destroying” jobs and more about correcting an unsustainable expansion.
All of this points back to Graeber’s argument: a substantial share of modern employment may exist not because it is necessary, but because the system requires people to appear economically active. If we applied a strict standard of meaningful productivity, many roles—across management, administration, finance, media, and beyond—might struggle to justify themselves.
This leads to a deeper economic question. If large portions of the global workforce earn extremely low wages, while others perform work of questionable necessity, what exactly is the system optimizing for? The fear that “the economy would collapse if people stopped working” assumes that current structures are both natural and indispensable. But modern fiat economies are constructed systems, not laws of nature. Their stability depends as much on belief and coordination as on material output.
Technologies like Bitcoin are sometimes proposed as alternatives—systems designed to operate with transparent, fixed rules rather than discretionary policy. Whether or not such systems can fully replace existing financial structures remains an open question, but their appeal reflects dissatisfaction with the current model, particularly its inefficiencies and inequalities.
The larger point is this: AI is being blamed for disrupting society, but the disruption reveals pre-existing weaknesses. If millions of jobs can disappear without catastrophic consequences, then perhaps those jobs were never as essential as we believed. And if losing them creates despair, that suggests we have tied human worth too tightly to employment rather than to contribution, creativity, or well-being. What do you do?
In that sense, automation may be less a destroyer than a mirror. It forces us to confront why we work, which work truly matters, and how we distribute resources in a world where less human labour may be required.
The real failure, then, is not that AI might be changing the system—it’s that we built a system so dependent on questionable forms of work in the first place.

Today we dive into the archives of asteroid R56. In the year known as 2029 in the ancient Gregorian calendar, the landscape of an area in Sector 4-3-y, then quaintly known by Earthlings as New York, was completely changed when the Federation of Alabrasca detonated a series of primitive Proton bombs in key fashionable neighbourhoods. At various times, as Nature dictated, the landscape was populated by a species known as sheep. One curious fact about sheep; contrary to one of the Earthlings' truly remarkable talents – language – it was one sheep, two sheep. Eccentricity and inability to truly communicate personified.
As they overgrazed, the flocks died back. This image captures one of those cycles when Nature forced the sheep to leave in order to restore balance.
Apparently It would be another 123,000 earth years before the sheep understood the art of balance. Thank the Galactic Omni Distro that we never have to grapple with such ignorant earthly lunacy. How they must have suffered.

I have an unhealthy relationship with poetry. There, I said the unthinkable out loud.
Verses and stanzas make me edgy and turn me illterate.
Limericks are OK, I can grasp what they are trying to say.
Recently I was dragged over the coals by a music fan because I owned Up that I don't even listen to lyrics, the tune is what hooks me in. That must also tie into my brain fart over anything containing a hint of poetics.
I think this aversion to the more arty creative side of language use hearkens back to the days of learning Latín. Call me old-fashioned, but layering four years of arcane grammar on top of metred Gallic Wars killed poetry for me.
In fact while I'm at It, I can say that state education from 11 to university killed my love of reading for pleasure, period. How can that be right? Rather than read, I write.

Build out a local circular economy off the back of zaps for useful content. Evolve the valuable content into products, goods and services. To run a business you need some sort of “bank” account. Try set up a Stripe account and then argue that bitcoin isn’t the best payment system ever devised. I still can’t believe the kyc hoops in place and the sense of “ feel grateful if we let you have a Stripe account”.
This is not how the world is supposed to work. It’s like pushing on string playing by the Fiat economy rules. Asking for permission to work hard or smart is a ridiculous and humiliating situation. On top of being taxed and then fed footage of the war destruction created by those holding the purse strings.
Bitcoin economy is the way ahead.

100% agree. What have you done today? I have BEEN :) Listened to birds, watched clouds scud across the sky and worked out what the weather was going to do for the next couple of hours. Cheap, educational... They would say that is irresponsible behaviour and the stuff of system collapse if everybody did it. They say it's only because most people pay into the system that allows a few people to BE, outside it. And there is a feeling of "them" trying to grab you back in for your sake, except it's for their sake. Besides, just because you look at clouds or listen to wildlife doesn't mean you don't have time to "do" anything. The opposite. Enjoying the natural world isn’t lazy or dangerous; it’s a cheap way to learn, relax, and become more effective when you return to bat way the frivolous demands of modern life.

Interesting thought experiment 😀 Instead of iris scans to open a Nostr account, a butt scan might be a better option. Limits us to one master account. Scanner built into every seat - from office chairs to cars to bike saddles to bar stools and mattresses - always online.

Interesting observations on arbitrary nature of investigating various aspects of bitcoin and crypto.
Politicians go after Binance for dealing with individuals from latest enemy state. Yet no investigation into who is behind dodgy transactions embedding illegal content on the enemy-agnostic bitcoin blockchain. And the billions spent on KYC is netting under 1% returns while endangering the 99% with every unfortunate data breach.
The inconsistency is almost comical—meat-and-potatoes stuff for anyone writing about the absurdities of modern enforcement. If the busybodies were consistent, we’d be out of a job.

Good article! If Nostr is ever going to grow into its boots, people on legacy platforms need to understand two things: the pitfalls of where they are, and the fact that serious alternatives exist.
But it’s not enough to say “go decentralised, problem solved.” Bitcoiners hate being lumped in with twenty thousand copy‑paste tokens; in the same way, Nostr has to make it clear that it is not just another “decentralised social network.”
The motives and philosophies of the people building these alternatives matter. Bluesky is not simply “Twitter for lefties,” and Nostr is not “Twitter for right‑leaning users.” What really defines each network is the worldview of its founders. Bluesky’s leadership, for example, is broadly comfortable with centralised control mechanisms “when needed.” (See post-2024 elections.) That means their commitment to decentralisation comes with caveats. It is a hybrid living on the edge of mission‑creep, governance capture, and the same old story: decentralised in branding, centralised in practice. "Square 1" is always potentially just around the next corner.
Look closely at most so‑called decentralised networks and you find similar control levers baked in. Despite the best of intentions, over time, those levers grind away at the original promise of true decentralisation. A nudge from this agency, a poke from a VC here, a new faction shouts there... Nostr is different because of its roots in Bitcoin culture, where freedom and self‑sovereignty dominate the mindset. That heritage makes the network structurally and culturally more resistant to capture.
Refugees from legacy platforms need clear information on what defines decentralised platforms. Regardless of their political or cultural leanings, users who are fed up with feeds controlled by algorithms and frustrated that their reach is of secondary importance to corporate advertisers' needs – need to know what a refined, robust decentralised network really looks like.
Other “decentralised” platforms may look busier, slicker, or more familiar right now. But Nostr is NOT just another escape hatch from algo‑hell and overbearing moderation. It is, arguably, the most ambitious decentralised communications project on the table—aiming for far more than being a Twitter killer.

I thought I was following a bunch of interesting accounts but when for example I select recent follows in Yakihonne, it's missing most follows' posts. Not dissing the accounts Who have stuck, but I found another 60+ accounts with great content and - it's crickets. The thing is, I have managed to display my home feed on my wordpress website, and It could be so much more persuasive to non Nostr visitors
