This is Oregon Grape, but it isn’t really a grape. The berries are very sour - too sour to enjoy eating raw, but good for making jams or preserves.
In Latin, it’s called “Berberis aquifolia” and its roots produce berberine which has been used in traditional herbal medicine for a long time to control blood sugar and reduce weight.
There are, of course, common side effects if the dose is too high for the person taking it. Do I think your average healthcare provider can offer insight and useful guidance on this or any other traditional herbal remedy? I don’t really need to answer that, do I?

Note that avobenzone (used to be called Parsol 1789) breaks down rapidly in uv light (sunlight) and the claimed broad uv-a protection rapidly disappears. So, in addition to its other hazards, avobenzone in a sunscreen does not provide the protection the label implies.
The spf rating of a sunscreen does not take into account the effectiveness of reducing uv-a exposure because it is a metric developed around delaying sunburn (caused by uv-b, not uv-a). Thus, a user may remain in direct sunlight longer without burning but is not getting protection from uv-a which penetrates deeper than uv-b and is fully capable of inducing skin cancer, including melanoma, with contributing to sunburn.
There’s additional misleading and missing details about skin wrinkling and aging, along with details about variation among people in skin melanin levels vs. risk of sunburn and skin cancer . . . but that might be better addresses later.
