Personally, I would never have any sizeable amount of Bitcoin on any exchange longer than the required time to clear the purchase. But the masses will never self-custody. They're too lazy to learn or try to learn. Like it or not, that's the way it is and no amount of "education" will change that for most. So we need reliable custodial solutions for them. The ones who can be taught will eventually learn self-custody. Bitcoin is going mainstream, and people will buy it without understanding any of it. So we have to have reliable custodial solutions for them.

A couple of months ago I added a group, it didn't work correctly and then there was no way to delete it, so I created a new nsec to get rid of it. I later discovered 0xChat could can remove them. But posting to groups with Amethyst has not worked for me in the past. Maybe this has updated? Been a few months since I tried it.

Groups. 0xChat can create them and then they appear in Amethyst, but they are jacked and don't work when opened in Amethyst. And I haven't found any way to delete a group in Amethyst. 0xChat can be used for group deletion. Other than that, DMs work fine in Amethyst, but it would be nice for recipients to be able to see reactions and other features would be nice as well, but groups that function is mainly what I'm referring to.

Sure, I do try other clients. But I create a new nsec with the client I'm trying out. Have you ever taken your Amethyst nsec and logged into Primal with it? Totally sucks ass. Almost nothing works. But if you create a new nsec using Primal, everything works. I don't like the algo, and it does no good to follow anyone using Primal, but it does work. Just an example.

This is the reason I only use Amethyst. Vitor does a great job keeping everything moving forward with the next big thing and not many others keep up. No offense intended to the other devs, but it's why you can't take a single nsec and use it with multiple clients. Almost no one is on the same page with their models and NIPs.

Until we get better interoperability between clients, you have to pick a client and sell that client, and Nostr separately. I choose Amethyst because I use Android exclusively. And because Amethyst is way better than anything else on Android, that's what I pitch to others. Because to do otherwise only introduces problems. I sell Nostr first, then Amethyst second. And I advise people to only use Amethyst because taking an nsec created with Amethyst does not play well with other clients, and vice-versa, and almost no one is willing to create a new nsec with each new client they want to try, but it seems that is where we are.

In Amethyst, settings > relays, there are a couple of recommendations for Search and DMs. But if you go to the General Relay section and tap "Default", you can use some of those for your public/private inbox, public outbox, etc... Some that are really good, that can be used for DM, private/public inbox/outbox that have come up in discussions (I don't remember where) have been:

wss://nostr.bitcoiner.social
The others in your General defaults list are probably really good options as well. These will definitely get you in the mainstream, from my experience. Others may want to chime in here...

It will get better, but I think non-technical people will have to be spoon-fed for a long time and will have to be pulled in to Nostr. It's human nature to keep doing what they're doing unless they're forced off centralized platforms in some way, either through censorship or a platform gets shut down.

Also, I found that if I'm using the same nsec in Primal, for example, that I'm using in Amethyst, the result is terrible. I had to create the same profiles using nsecs created with Primal to get a result that was in any way usable.

Amethyst use the outbox model, which I believe is the reason you can set specific relays to handle your private/public inbox, DMs, private and local relays and general relays. Amethyst seems to capture posts and comments I can't see with any other client. Just go with what Vitor recommends and add to it if you want. Problem is not everyone uses an Android phone. I want to try and like other clients, but honestly, and I don't want to discourage development in any way, but Amethyst is what I use unless I'm just trying something else out.

I can validate that. I use Graphene, and Pokey worked the first time. I switched profiles and I've not been able to get it to work since, even though it says it's running. I've even uninstalled/reinstalled everything (Pokey, Zapstore, Amethyst), it seems I completely broke it. 😑

I'm using Pixel 7 with Graphene OS as well. It's been a great experience, overall. I can't imagine being locked into an iPhone after having this much freedom and control over my device. I've heard about the UP Phone as well, but I believe I'm better off with the de-Googled Pixel. 🙂
Also, I've been a GB listener for many years now, and one of the bones I've picked with him is that he's an iTard who doesn't have a clue about smartphones, yet tries to come off like a privacy expert while packing an iPhone!
