It doesn't make sense in a New Zealand context. A huge proportion of church-going Christians in Aotearoa are not privileged Pākehā. There are many Māori, Pasifika, and other minority immigrants, as well as a majority of women. If you think of most Christians as Bible thumping Baptists, that's your stereotype at work. In the same way that most Muslims are not Arabs, and most Jews are not Israeli.

I'm not defending anyone who is bigoted. I am defending the right of people to practise their belief system without being denigrated by others who assume that all people who claim to adhere to that belief system act in a particular way.

Most of us religious people would be grateful if you didn't tell us how to be better religious people. I wouldn't presume to tell you how to be a better atheist, notwithstanding that I do have some opinions on this topic that I wouldn't share with anyone.
Please do call out bigotry when you see it, but to denigrate an entire group of people just because of a label, is, well, bigoted.
