With a MK3 or below if you didn't add a bip39 passphrase or randomly generated the seedphrase through dice rolls or else, you have no security and your funds are already lost or will be soon enough.
For MK4 / 5 / or Q the entropy seems better so you may have time to change your setup but again without a passphrase or a randomly generated seedphrase by "analogic" ways you are at risk in the middle / long run.
If you have a strong passphrase or used at least 100 dice rolls or equivalent to create the randomness your are ok whatever device you have.

As an official Coinkite reseller, we are writing to inform you of an important security advisory published on July 30, 2026 regarding COLDCARD wallets.
WHAT HAPPENED?
A software bug prevented the hardware random number generator (TRNG) from properly contributing to seed generation on certain firmware versions. Seeds generated on an affected device are significantly weaker than intended and could, in theory, be recovered by an attacker.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
► If your seed was generated on a Mk3 (firmware 4.0.1 or later):
Treat your seed as at risk. Follow the dedicated Mk3 Security Advisory on the Coinkite blog and migrate your funds to a new wallet. Proceed calmly, verify every step, and send a small test transaction first.
► If your seed was generated on a Mk4, Mk5, or Q:
1. Update the firmware BEFORE generating any new seed: version 5.6.0 or later (Mk4/Mk5) or 1.5.0Q or later (Q) — https://coldcard.com/docs/upgrade/
2. Generate a completely new seed on the updated device.
3. Coinkite recommends adding a strong, unique BIP-39 passphrase, and/or at least 99 rolls of a fair six-sided die.
4. Back up the new seed and passphrase carefully, storing them separately.
5. Power-cycle the device and verify the wallet fingerprint and a receive address.
6. Send a small test transaction before moving the rest of your funds.
IMPORTANT: Updating the firmware does NOT repair a seed that was already created with affected firmware. You must generate a new seed and migrate your funds.
A note on passphrases: every passphrase (including one with a typo) creates a different, valid wallet. Always verify the wallet fingerprint before depositing funds, and remember that losing the passphrase means losing access to the funds.
DEVICES NOT AFFECTED: TAPSIGNER, OPENDIME, and SATSCARD are not affected (different codebases).
If you have just received a device from us, please update the firmware before creating any seed.

And to answer the main point obviously logging in with Google is way harder than doing it through amber.
It's like saying Bitcoin is complicated to use when you litteraly have to enter 12 digits and more in your computer when you aim to pay by card online, with the additional risk of seing your private informations stolen and used against you in the future.

The anti amber / pro Google stand is really strange from the Webmaster. It's trivial to use amber (it seems it's complicated implement and maintain though), but he doesn't see any value in a nsec which can explain his position. Hopefully Dark Wisp will continue to exist otherwise Amethyst Yakihonne and other power users client will do the job.

The truth is many (most of) people do need amber even among newbies..If your client doesn't support it, it's not an app that I'd recommend for a new nostr user tbh.
It would feel like recommanding to a new Bitcoiner to onboard through custodial KYC Bitcoin, nonsense.
Nostr private keys may become as valuable in the future than Bitcoin private keys, in some keys maybe much more if the web of trust emerges as planned..so we have to treat them well from the start and give the good reflex to people.

I prefer adds to taxes, at least the publicity man tries to sell something while the taxman forces you to buy his products.
Just saying the adds have nothing to do with the fiat world IMO, they are suggestions nothing more.
And the beauty of nostr is that if your client floods you with adds then you can swith to another one that manages to survive without this source of income, or even ask Claude Code to build one for you...

Ouai c’est pour ça que je suggérais au dév de clients nostr qui supportent les marketplaces (comme @npub142g…xrj0) de trouver une solution pour éviter ça. Mais pas évident car en même temps un commerçant a envie que ses produits apparaissent dans le feed de ses followers. Là le problème c’est le temps de la de la création du shop où ça spam à mort.

The "problem" is more than my followers are seeing hundred of event in their own feed and it feels like spam to them...So they might want to unfollow or mute me which is bad for nostr business 😅
On my end it's not a problem but if you'd follow my account you'd see that your own feed is flooded by my product's publications right now, so it could be disturbing for you. But maybe it's actually how Nostr is supposed to work IDK.
You are right though once the migration is over, it would not be a problem and I may be happy that my followers can see each new article I add to sell on my store.

I asked Claud Code to create a tool to automate that (never wrote a line of code so pretty impressed by what it managed to create in few hours by the way 🤯)
The problem is that clients that supports and display these "market places NIPs" are flooded by all the events published, and people who follow me can feel spammed.
Could we make sure that these Market Place events don't appear in the main feed of people, only in the Market Place section of the client ?

Could someone explain why DMs seems so broken on nostr ? Clients seems barely compatible with each other.
For an example sending from @nprofile…wlyq to @nprofile…wywf works, but not from Amethyst to Primal
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I've been on Nostr for years and the state of DMs in term of UX has never been worse IMO

I’m pretty sold on plebeian market.
The design of the website/client is pretty neat and it seems to work well. I like the V4V way of splitting profits also, going to set it up in 2% for you, it’s basically what Shopify charges.
Going to migrate my Shopify store on plebeian market actually, or to duplicate it actually, and try to promote it a bit.
I think there are still things to improve though, I’ ll glad to help with feedback of you need it.

Could a BTCPay Server or something similar be hosted on nsite ?
We pleb still struggle to expose our self hosted BTCPay Server on Umbrel or Start9 to the clearnet, so we have to host it with Voltage or Lunanode etc...
I dream to be able to host it myself at home (securely for my LAN) and without technical burden directly link it to my website.
Still no solution for that, you have to be some kind of wizard.

It's not really trustless so far and not private enough (at all) . But it's better than custodial and remove the regulatory pressure a bit for a time.
More importantly some people don't like the Spark Entity runned by Lightspark (that all wallets are using right now), the organazation that created Spark the protocol. I don't get why they don't run their own Spark entity rather than complaining tbh.

It doesn’t contradict what I said. I said that purity is a good thing. Darthcoin always shit on me for not being pure enough and in most case he is right I don’t hide and deny it, I just try my best.
For the YakiHonne address specifically I didn’t even know, it may have change automatically when I tried the client, this profile (which is not my main profile) was initially setup with my BTCPay server address given by Voltage. I don’t receive zaps tbh, I only send them.
Also I think LN addresses should be replaced by bolt12 offers for nostr to be complete.
To finish I don’t think billions of people will ever use bitcoin at all, I hope I’m wrong. What’s 100% sure though, is that either we don’t ask for permission, or either I’m exactly right and we’ll indeed never see billions using bitcoin. If we can only scale through permissioned systems then bitcoin is useless in the first place.

2 - people don't do tx within the Spark entity and just use it as a LN wallet. I know its still possible to find your spark adress through your LN invoice if you are technical enough. But as soon that they stop reusing address this almost stop being a concern because most of Spark txs are in fact LN swaps. So it breaks all deterministic links for an outsider.
But the main flaw come from the fact that they made the explorer public.
WoS could have also made their database public before bein on spark.
What I mean is that the problem come from a choice from this specific Spark entity not from the protocol itself.

The Bitcoin standard can't be permissioned though otherwise it's still a fiat standard.
So compromising to the extend of having to ask permission to run mints or Spark / Ark Servers is foolish.
Either these services are built by cypherpunks in a total black market style, either it's indeed useless and purist are 100% right.

The question was about the Cashu wallet embedded in the Iris web client. Does this cashu wallet have to be backed up seperatly or can I retrieve the funds from anywhere just connecting to Iris with the same nsec ?

I'm using alby browser remote signer with many nsec embedded in it.
And with primal destop it can get tricky because is shows you as logged with an ID while in fact you sign the event with another other nsec if you are not careful

Kind of agree but can't unsee the fact that HWs are the easiest way to reach a strong security without aquiring much knowledge first. Eventually the brave and knowledgeable bitcoiners needs liquidity to spend their sats p2p.
So the more people are onboarded thanks to easy and still secure tools, the more the "non weak" benefit from it by getting more freedom and then building even more freedome tools. It's a virtuous cicle. The network effect of Bitcoin is extremely important if we want bitcoin to work as intended (meaning end or at least shrink the State). The weak using bitcoin even for bad reasons make us way stronger.

You can use passphrases or custom derivation paths and many other tricks I guess. But it's not suited for even the average bitcoiners and doesn't remove the fact that you still increase the risk of leaking enough info for an attacker to steal your funds if your setup is not good enough. Custom setup are way less secured than standard ones for many reasons.

Can relate. We have a physical Bitcoin shop in Paris. People continue to come buy their non KYC stuff on site, or online paying in Bitcoin to have privacy (associated with locker deliveries in many European countries).
Without the awful price action having major impact so far, people don't care so much it seems.
My 2 cents is that the current global environment of governmental threat (being all bankrupt they are becoming more and more dangerous) lead people to get interested in Bitcoin to protect themselves from theft.
The price drop is also viewed more and more as an opportunity even by noobs, not as a proof that bitcoin is dead.

Yeah but their is not social consensus needed for the features mentioned above. So it may be about security even if as a non développer I’d naively expect that libraries and SDK already do the work in term of security.
And that it’s in fact just a matter of shipping the feature. I guess it’s not exactly the case obviously but it still frustrating.
We seem far from “Clawd here is the code of my wallet, add the payjoin v2 feature using the Payjoin development kit” workflow, and just double checking that all seems ok afterward.

Most people will never care about the issues bitcoiners are aware of and that bitcoin fixes. It's as often a "pareto principle issue" that will lead about 20% of people waking up and using bitcoin. The other 80% remaining will follow by mimicry because they'll have to in order to not be left behind. It's the gunpowder dilemna that Saifedean recalls regularely. Either you adopt it, either you lose. You do it because the most successfull people are doing it, and are asking to be paid in it.

Listening to many of my friends in the Bitcoin or developer space, AI is seen as a game changer that will likely leave many developers and other professions unemployed, blah blah blah.
My answer is that, at best, it’s a good productivity-enhancing tool, like many other innovations before it—nothing more.
Yet, whether I’m right or they are, I can only observe that most Bitcoin wallets still haven’t implemented Payjoin v2, Silent Payments, or a clean and user-friendly coin control feature etc...—without even mentioning Lightning capabilities (which, in most cases, is a deliberate choice ok…).
So when will we actually witness the AI revolution in the Bitcoin space as end users ? Is it already happening and I fail to see that new features are added at an increased pace ?

Yeah it involves many shades of custody through mints and liquid and Ark but it's the only way to go in order to scale Bitcoin without destroying it at its core.
We need a big spectrum of solutions adapted to everyone need. I don't think there will exist a perfect scaling solution one day, it's the sum of all of that small things alltogether that will achieve that.

Just received a Lightning payment from a customer on my own LN node and fresh channel spawned in under 2 minutes thanks to @nprofile…2gvy and @nprofile…q7y6 ⚡️

From there, I minted an eCash token… and sent it straight to

No let's be serious, mobile wallets are by far the most used, there must be a reason.
If you can't get rid of your Bitcoin easily, in other words spend it easily, it's worth 0. So you can't ignore the "in person" purchases use case like that IMO
