For years, one of the greatest chess players who ever lived insisted that women simply didn’t belong at the highest level of the game. Garry Kasparov, the reigning force of world chess, dismissed elite female players with remarks that became almost as famous as his victories. At one point, he described Hungary’s Judit Polgár as a “circus puppet” and suggested that women were better suited to having children than competing with men across a chessboard.
It was exactly the kind of statement that seemed impossible to challenge. Kasparov wasn’t just another grandmaster—he was widely considered the strongest player on Earth. Most people assumed his confidence was backed by an uncomfortable truth.
Judit Polgár had spent her entire life proving that assumption wrong.
Raised under her father László Polgár’s controversial belief that “geniuses are made, not born,” she wasn’t trained to become the world’s best female player. She deliberately refused to compete in women’s championships, choosing instead to face the strongest men in the world, tournament after tournament. Critics called the experiment unrealistic. Others called it arrogance.
Then came September 2002.
During the Russia versus the Rest of the World Match, Polgár found herself sitting across from Kasparov himself. The game carried years of history, rivalry, and public comments that everyone remembered. This time there would be no interviews, no headlines, no opinions—only sixty-four squares.
When the game ended, Kasparov resigned.
The match was played under rapid chess time controls, not classical chess. Even so, it was the first time Kasparov had lost an official competitive game to a woman, and the symbolism was impossible to ignore. Polgár had answered years of dismissive remarks without raising her voice or trading insults. She did it with patience, precision, and moves that could never be argued away.
Chess has always rewarded the strongest position, not the loudest opinion. Sometimes history changes not with a speech, but with a quiet handshake across a board where every move is remembered.

As an African woman, I have no reason to believe that I came from two Europeans in a garden with European names. Adam and Eve. White. Blonde. Blue-eyed. There's no Mpeshe in the Bible. The story does not even try to explain how they gave birth to Africans, Asians, Indians, and all the other races on earth. It just assumes you will swallow it. And generations have.
Half of Europe does not even like Africans. They do not want us in their countries. They do not want us in their schools. They draw borders to keep us out. They build walls to keep us away. And then they expect us to believe that we all came from the same white parents in the same white garden. That is not history. That is mockery.
The book also says Cain found a wife in another city. But at that time, the earth only had four people. Adam. Eve. Cain. Abel. Then Abel died. So where did the wife come from? Who was in that city? The book does not say. It just drops it in and moves on and we are expected to believe the absurdity without thinking.
So no. I do not believe I came from two white people in a garden. I believe I came from Africa. From the soil. From the sun. From a long line of women who gave birth before the Bible was ever written. And I do not need a book written by humans to tell me where I came from.

I haven’t read Spinoza’s original works, but I took several university philosophy courses where we discussed his ideas, and I’ve also read some secondary literature. As far as I understand him, he wasn’t really an atheist—he redefined God as the one substance underlying everything (Deus sive Natura). That’s why I’m curious why you mention Spinoza.
