The quoted text referenced Theil's and Citrea's desire to "Accelerate Bitcoin's Programmable Future" that's a bit different than the innocent statement "bitcoin is programmable money" especially considering the context and who it's coming from. They aren't talking about the conservative, minimal programmability required for monetary transactions and you know it. They don't need a foundation for that. The exact moment when Core was first infected with the woke virus was in 2020 when an anonymous dev, TrentZ, with no prior github history in the bitcoin repo (or any activity since then), submitted a PR to change the word "blacklist" in Bitcoin Core test code with the comment "Let's use a more appropriate and clear word and discard the usage of the blacklist. Blocklist is clear and shall make everyone happy."
I remember well this caused some controversy at the time, with people pushing back on the absurd wokeness of it all. Many of the same devs currently defending v30, crying about Gloria being "chased out", and making all kinds of excuses for spam, argued in favor of the change. Among their arguments were plenty of elitism and credentialism very similar to what we've heard recently. It was the first time I noticed a shift towards wokeness in Core and I knew then it was just the start.
This is how the woke virus infects a project like Core. It slips in as small, innocuous changes. Then the team mindset slowly shifts with constant pressure to conform, purity tests like getting the covid vaccine, strict adherence to ESG/DEI and other insane woke progressive ideologies, slowly pushing out dissenters and forcing everyone else to toe the line. Core has followed the woke playbook to the letter.
Six years later, Core is completely controlled by this mentality. Unfortunately there is no way to undo this damage. Just like bitcoin doesn't seek to change the system but rather replace it, we need to replace Core. Spam, shiticoins, and wokeness are not welcome in Bitcoin.

Woke infiltration is a recurring pattern that unfortunately affects many open source projects, corporations, and other institutions. Thinking that Bitcoin Core is immune to it is extremely naive. Wokism is antithetical to meritocracy has no place in Bitcoin development.

The FAQ on bip110.org says it's not about stopping spam, it's about making Bitcoin unwelcome to spammers. Should we try to do that? I think so. Does 110 do that? I think obviously yes.
The counter argument I hear a lot is something like "that's what fees are for" but as you point out, the mempool is completely empty. If that weren't the case I think changing the op_return policy would be less controversial.
Fees will price out spam someday but until then let's allow 100kb of arbitrary data per tx is madness.
Your second point is a valid concern but this is why core should not have forced an unpopular, unwanted change through on behalf of one company. When node operators objected they said fuck you, so here we are.

This is the "death by a thousand cuts" attack currently being carried out by Todd and others. Little by little the scope and use cases of Bitcoin are expanded, stretching censorship resistance to cover any arbitrary data not just monetary transactions. Shifting definitions, ever increasing scope creep, all changing Bitcoin's trajectory one BIP at a time towards becoming another Ethereum-like shitcoin platform.
Todd's endgame is tail emissions and/or demurrage. I used to believe Bitcoin maxis had enough fight in them to make sure this would never happen, but now I'm not so sure. Sadly, I think a lot of the current core worshiping pro v30 crowd will also support these changes when the time comes. As important as this current fight is, there are bigger battles ahead. If BIP110 has no other affect besides cutting Todd out of Bitcoin development then it's worth it imo.

His logic is retarded. If someone is caught with cp files on their computer, the defense "it's just strings of hex, and I don't have any image viewing software installed, so it's totally ok" is not going to work. They don't care if it's downloaded and never viewed. Mere possession is the crime.
The only defense that might work is lack of intent. For example "I didn't intend to download cp, it just happened." This is where it gets murky because installing and running core v30 knowing of this risk could be argued as intent, same for mining a block with such content in it.
As for the jurisdiction argument, telling people to move to a cp friendly jurisdiction so they can run a node is beyond retarded.

Slightly different. A meritocracy builds up reputational capital, which is then slowly consumed during and after the transformation until it's all used up. Shitcoin projects never have that initial build up, except by riding on Bitcoin's coattails maybe. It's that built up trust and respectibilty that lets mediocrities survive as long as they do. Fortunately us bitcoiners don't blindly trust, "slay your heros" and all that.

And it started long before v30 so that makes it hard to figure out exactly where Core began to stray. When many small changes add up to a problem, and a fork is needed to correct course, it looks like the incumbent core devs are the conservative reasonable ones, and they try hard to make the other side look reckless.
But we can not be led astray by this framing. If a fork is needed then it's needed regardless of whether it addresses a sudden big attack by some rogue dev or a slow "death by a thousand cuts" attack carried out over many years by a well respected dev.
An interesting historical fact is that the PR to make op_return transactions standard was merged back in 2014 and was created by none other than Peter Todd, who's also responsible for the PR for removing the op_return limit in v30.
