This "careful" "AI Safety" company that just accidentally leaked its entire source code to the world is the one that African governments are entering into agreements with to include in infrastructures from health care to god knows what.

In his video, Bernie is literally creating a Claude ad, showing the system as an all knowing being that answers all of his questions. An ad for Anthropic, a company claiming that they can't even confidently say that "Claude isn't conscious".

Now, ChatGPT is bucketed under the same term as a model trained to translate a specific language into another and which is carefully trained through curated data.
This model is also bucketed under the same term as a plant recognition tool built exclusively to do that task and trained and evaluated only on data related to that task.

Wildly different things, tasks, techniques, subspecialties being lumped into "AI" and then being conflated with each other, doesn't help. Different types of models vs the techniques to train them vs the tasks they are supposed to accomplish, all being bucketed under "AI", is misleading. I told people at Google about this, and asked them to build language technology and at the very least, have basic moderation, in so-called "under-resourced languages” like Tigrinya. Although we were at Google, any concerns sent to YouTube went into a void never to even be acknowledged. The same VP who sent an “anonymous” letter to HR telling me to retract my paper and setting the stage for my firing, however, commented that plenty of work was being done in that arena.

I have said that the only thing we need to do at CVPR is protest and show how this community is at the forefront of the world's warfare and genocide with impunity.
