it's v possible to write a story with an OC in Eora, and the lore is so rich that there are tons of possibilities. especially given the transitionary period in technology the world is going through, the imperial ambitions other kingdoms act on to strengthen their technologies, and the very real, very petty, very angry gods that keep interfering in everything. imagine an organic rebellion against the Huana caste system that is corrupted by Skaen, or an animancer experimenting with the forced creation of Watchers, or a Nazpalca monk leading a drug syndicate for religious reasons (Ondra likes it when they obliterate their own memories through rotting their own brains via svef)

restarted pillars of eternity 1 recently. played it a ton a long time ago, then Pillars 2 came out and i basically shifted to it.
replaying pillars 1 really reinforces how amazing the vibes are. as a combat isometric rpg this is the one setting i want to just live in, there is a comfortable minimalism here where i can just immerse myself in the surroundings. like baldur's gate 1 you have a map with a large number of zones you can freely travel to and spend your time uncovering, but beyond that the towns are all focused on establishing the world and its numerous people and lives and how they all influence each other, and it avoids being too hyperfocused on the story in a way the sequel ends up being (although to be fair it's not a weakness of Pillars 2, just something i prefer in Pillars 1). there are catastrophes and twists in the first few hours but they're understated, letting you fully absorb them and understand how they impact the world.

i get you, and FMAB is the popular choice as the better fullmetal alchemist/the best anime ever. i can't really debate people on this but it's one place where i simply do not get why anyone would like the show, let alone love it. everyone, every critic and fan says the plot beats are stronger and more coherent, and i'm just here seeing red where everyone else is seeing green - for me, personally, i find FMAB very, very bad!

there is a publicly held secret everyone knows and chooses to ignore, that the BJP government is happy to let its people die poor. if sonam wangchuk dies it will be harder to ignore for folk, every message by the BJP will be seen in this light, because they are so publicly happy he's dying.

i think this convo also articulates for me why i don't generally use LLMs myself. I don't need my code to be written perfectly, there's no such thing and i won't ever know the best way to implement it. but the act of coding itself is pleasurable for me. the trial-and-error, poring through documentation, learning things i will apply later, all that is why i do this. there is no pleasure in getting a ready-made piece of code. if it's perfect i won't know for sure because the code is generally ugly. if it's not perfect i will have to spend more time understanding it to then improve it, than if i had written the first draft myself.

i agree with paragraph 2 and 3 but completely disagree with para 1. tech workers aren't the only folk affected by GenAI, we have not seen a technology that is so extractive before this, only technology that could act as replacements due to efficiencies and higher proportions of material costs.
