This sounds like it is about the flatpak runtimes.
One possible reason for that failing is a lack of disk space (especially on 16GB PinePhone eMMC installs). Could this be (part of) the issue?
I suggest using the terminal and running `sudo flatpak update` and see if that gives you more info.

Maybe this post by a former Manjaro employee and Manjaro ARM maintainer can shed some light on the situation: https://blog.strits.dk/is-manjaro-arm-dead/
I don't know more and have looked deeper into this, since don't really care about Manjaro (the thing it did most reliably for me was breaking on updates so that I had no more working GUI after the update). I have not tried it since early 2023 on PinePhone/PinePhone Pro.

Mobian is based on Debian, and Debian puts out a stable release about every two years. The next one, Debian 13 Trixie, will be out relatively soon - but as there's no firm release date, it's impossible to say when exactly.
That said, you should be fine using a weekly update - that way, you get Trixie now. It should be quite stable despite not being released yet, as in Debian each package has to pass experimental first and then unstable to land in testing. Cc @npub1ua9…sk4k

Yeah, that hides the bar, but (like with Firefox without CSS hacks) the minimal window width is too wide (meaning more than 360 logical px, about 400-420px I guess). Which makes it not very useful, as the page content is invisible.
Also, there's seemingly no way to get the tab bar to show again with touch (and getting the addressbar to show again is really annoying). It's not for me, and in this state, I see no reason to add it to @npub1j6f…76l3

I just did so, briefly, and ... it does not really work well on such a narrow screen, If you scale the screen in a way that leads to more than 360 logical pixels in width, it may work.

For current options, it's not too easy:
- FuriLabs FLX1 reportedly is a good experience, but no mainline,
- RK3588s options (Liberux Nexx, dawndrums Divine D) seem multiple months away,
- FairPhone 5 lacks audio support on mainline (USB-C dongle works though),
- Shiftphone 8 (same SoC as Fairphone 5, but 12 GB RAM is supposedly shipping in August) and how well support will pan out is unknown.
OnePlus 6, Poco F1, Pixel 3a are affordable, but also aging (with hard(er) to replace batteries).

I think it really depends on which OS you want to run, and what the time frame is.
If the PinePhone works for you, I don't think there's any much need to worry. I was actually almost positively surprised during my experiments that led to the blog post: Mobian Trixie (which ships GTK 4.18) worked surprisingly well overall from SD card, and the Alpine 3.21 container is nice and small and keeps a working Megapixels around.

Nah, I was mostly thinking about 1.83 TBH.
For 2.0 it can be any distro with the flatpak, or compiling things on any distro pre-4.18 Mobian Bookworm, postmarketOS 24.12 , or the use of a to be created unofficial repo, which I put on my todo list for postmarketOS 24.12/Alpine 3.21).
In theory one could also make a distro blend/custom thing that just boots into Megapixels and nothing else 😂

Thank you! I hope I did not miss any huge GTK 4.18 showstoppers, BTW, if you just want to have the option to use Megapixels, you could (in addition to that distrobox approach, if that takes too much space) also always boot into another OS on sdcard - while, when using tow-boot on that sdcard, still booting from eMMC by default (this flexibility is what I love about the PinePhone).

They are building on Mobian - which at least sounds like less of a workload than what @npub1qy0…nsak are doing with PureOS. That said, if I made a 'LINMOBphone' it would, no matter the distro, also have some software branding + additional (meta-) packages to customize the experience and to not have to argue with distro people that Gapless is IMHO better than Lollypop.
I totally understand that if you put all the work into making hardware, you just want some influence on what's running on it.

Last year, I tried to help #Librem5 users to have a better experience when using #flatpak apps by not wasting space due to an outdated, buggy release of flatpak.

They are in an early stage still, but from what I could take in, I think that their approach can work. The only thing that gives me pause (knowing the app ecosystem) is the 5.5" 16:9 display (see also https://www.reddit.com/r/dawndrumsdev/comments/1k18zcv/divine_d_next_generation_gnu_linux_phone/msgrq0d/).
It's definitely nice to see a phone designed in Africa (Tunisia)!

It looks like the Liberux Nexx is no longer the only upcoming RK3588s phone:
The DawnDrums Divine D will use the same very SoC, running a Debian/@mobian based OS called DawnOS (with GNOME Mobile or Plasma Mobile).

The GUI way depends on the GUI:
E.g., with GNOME Shell Mobile, you have gdm, so you could do just like you would on a laptop. For Phosh, you would have up phrog to get a similar experience.
Also, https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/org.freedesktop.malcontentcontrol/ may be helpful on both - I never seriously tried to use it though.

It's an error should have showed up later, but as Thunderbird 137 somehow landed in Alpine edge, fun arrived early.
The fix for a similar error for Firefox 136+ without breaking ESR 128 also works for Thunderbird, see my MR: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/mobile-config-thunderbird/-/merge_requests/2 @npub1rtv…ugrn

I guess I am just sad for GTK4 effectively obsoleting what where the 'main choices' in #LinuxMobile when PINE64 and Purism revitalized the niche/userspace software ecosystem in 2019 ff. I'll see if I can rephrase the comment to make the sentiment more clear; if I can't, I'll just remove it.

I guess I worded that poorly. I was thinking of the combination of hardware and graphics drivers, where often OpenGLES 2.0 is a first base line reached, and later on, more is accomplished. Like with Asahi: December 2022 2.0, Mid 2023 3.1. Sadly, not all efforts move along as quickly, think etnaviv. Add the fact that the PinePhone Pro (ES 3.1, Mali T860) has issues with the new renderer..
(I could also look up when the last SoC with a Mali 4xx GPU was announced, but sure, that's DOA).

Looking at how broken my next branch (with true-mobile-mode in landscape) is with FF136, I honestly don't want to put the maintenance burden of making something like user0's true-mobile-mode default in m-c-f on anyone.
Moving things between bars (the tab counter) is just so super prone to breakage.

It's not really different. It's mostly fixes to make stuff work with current Firefox 136.
Before this release, you would get "Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator." with Firefox 136.
Aside from that, it's minor cosmetic things, see screenshots.

Generally yes, but while you can package everything into a .deb, getting it accepted into #Debian (and I assume similar for #Devuan) is a different thing. There's a reason why the #UbuntuTouch @npub1lmq…xa4a people were super happy and proud when they managed to get Lomiri accepted into Debian.
Maybe Debian/Mobian contributors can chime in here :-)

Oh, but many people need it or even want "phone". If I had a Euro for every time I've been asked "but does it do phone calls reliably" which obviously in the age of VoLTE introduction is impossible to answer without "where do you live and what carrier are you on" ... it would have paid for a pretty decent laptop, at least.
BTW: Isn't it ironic that VoLTE with its "crystal clear call audio" was introduced just when everybody started to use crappy sounding BT headphones?

Also: You don't have to mess with Shutter/GNOME Camera if you want to see how well the camera works.
qcam is a good testing app. It's also super annoying, as you need to type in a file name to take pictures, but results will be as good as they get with the libcamera stack from my experience (the resulting images may help figuring out the magic pixel count, btw).

Cheese didn't use to work, and as it did not really see a ton of development as far as I can tell (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese), the change must have happened somewhere in the stack.

Just to make sure: Images will in all likelyhood remain blurry unless taking a picture of something in focus (a few centimeters).
They will just be less zoomed in and overall seem less blurry - in part, because there's more things shown.
(That said, I have not played with camera on the OnePlus 6 (wanted to, but when I got to it, the MR would temporarily not lead to working cameras), so I don't even know if it is plagued by the same issues as the Poco F1 or the Pixel 3a.)

This is a nice hack, but IMHO it's not the solution yet, just for viewfinder speed alone (it's not that fast on old smol Pixel 3a at least).
Megapixels IIRC works around this by setting different resolutions for 'just view finder' and 'actually taking pictures'.

@npub1nur…9rzx the previous pipeline run from one day earlier build used 4032, so it may be worth a try on OP6 (it did not on my Pixel 3a, weirdly, because the 47.1 apk patched to 4032 did).

Where/how did you get that version info? My best guess is that your install command lacks a .flatpak at the end and you ended up installing the 'unpatched' upstream flatpak and not the one you downloaded.

For the lazy ones interested in what magdesign's change does (and for those who don't want to pollute their install by randomly putting newer than packaged libadwaita etc):

Because:
No matter the kernel or bootloader, we have many common goals. In principle, politically (making sure that not everything requires Google or Apple), and in software (userspace).

You have good points, and my amount of mainline-ish devices here is way higher than of those running halium. You don't have to compromise.
But I strongly believe we should allow others to follow their rationale and decide on their trade-offs, and work together where we can all benefit and not waste that time on "true trueer truest mobile linux" infighting no one on the outside can understand anyway.

If you want to go with the latest Snapshot code, creating a patch file and add it to the nighly flatpak manifest: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/snapshot/-/blob/main/build-aux/org.gnome.Snapshot.Devel.json and build that (I'll see if I can find the time to do a writeup).
I can't recommend a lot of packages in your distribution, I've tried it a bunch and the best case outcome was that I had to do a lot of cleanup to be able to update again.

Using Halium may not be fine for you, but if it's fine for others that's fine and it's none of your business. Same for using mainline vice versa. Let's focus on what unites us and not division. Let's work together. This niche is small enough already, splitting it further makes no sense at all.

That likely a classic landscape issue. So many apps don't really implement full "360×294px" recommended by GNOME HIG https://developer.gnome.org/hig/guidelines/adaptive.html
While I am an advocate of going with scaling factors that lead to 360 logical pixels display with, with the PinePhone keyboard I usually went with 150% or 175% to avoid broken UIs.
Can you share a screenshot of the file picker? I wonder if it uses the new xdg-desktop-portal-phosh one or whether Fedora is still going with gtkfilepicker.

Which distribution/which version of Phosh are you running? Since 0.44.0 Phosh can include a new, mobile friendly file-picker instead of bad old GTKFilePicker:

I think the Halium-based OS (Ubuntu Touch, Droidian, FuriOS) can expose the NFC reader to their (optional) Waydroid container and thus make it useful to Android apps which offers a way for NFC payments, but otherwise we'll have to wait for the "First GNU-like Mobile Linux Bank" to finally open for business 😉
