You could still ReplyGuy your way around using random keys and a variety of low powered devices or cloud micro services, even with a proof of work challenge. Consensus is also needed (of which machine learning could be one part of, message scoring, community reports, etc.) and would help mitigate the rest of the issue.

Scaling Proof of Work and consensus mechanisms are the way forward. It will take some time, just as it did with finance, but that's how you stop/reduce/mitigate the attacks.

A lot of people may not remember or were around to experience it. In order to do Web Of Trust one needed to validate another's identity before digitally signing for them. PGP key parties were had in person to perform live verifications for example. Are you willing to do this for all your Nostr friends, or would one simply and blindly sign away a trust verification? I foresee the latter.

You just have to compile the gpg binaries, add them to your user shell, generate a new public/private keypair on a Yubikey, set an admin PIN, set a user PIN, backup the admin PIN, backup the user PIN, backup the gpg private key (securely that is), reconfigure your ssh connectivity to the gpg-agent, update your local terminal config and paths, source that config, enter the decryption commands, enter your user PIN, and then tap your Yubikey. As simple as that! 😂

I just pushed an update to the HTML nostr view only client. It’s still under 300 lines, now with usernames and avatars (new messages only).
If anyone has a good idea for the historical message buffer when the site loads I’m open to suggestions! It can’t be too much of a blocking task or else it interrupts new messages and the display flow.

I need to catch up on the latest NIPs and see what was still on my original todo list. My attention went elsewhere and I ended up developing https://pypi.org/project/selfhash/ and a few other things.
At this point, I’d probably tear the entire text client all down and build it again from the ground up having incorporated what I learned on the first pass. I’d keep the UI but my spaghetti code needs a ton of clean up and functionalization. There are also some sweet libraries now I could lean on, but I appreciate native code/functions as well. :thinking:

Meepmeep is less than 200 lines of HTML and Javascript code for a read only quick and dirty (clean?) HTML #nostr kind 1 client.
Contribute? Yes please!
My goal is to have this be super lightweight and uncensorable so that it can run on the most amount of devices - and ultimately provide a communications channel/broadcast for those in need (for whatever reason).

If they make any updates to the file then the hash would change the check would fail. The SelfHash files themselves are hashed and one could verify that against committed source if they wanted (Github currently).
I added a salt (something you know) to help prevent malicious script updates with a hash header update.
It’s not perfect, but I am liking the extra verification/check. We are looking at self-verifying the caller itself so that verification of SelfHash itself happens on import.

I'm happy to present #SelfHash, a #Python package that adds an extra layer of security to your scripts🐍. SHA-256 verifies the code integrity before execution and defeats the "chicken or egg" hash in code issue. "pip install selfhash" will get you going.
