Can't even read the thread since jonny hopped in to break it.
At first I thought the defed was a bit harsh. I even naively spoke out on his behalf, even though it probably had no effect. That said, I've come to the realization that it's possible that I was wrong.

Audio in Linux has lagged for years. Pipewire has made some decent improvements recently, but it takes a lot to get it to work. A lot of the DAWs don't work out well on Linux.

You're not that far off. The environment is rapidly changing due to foreign born migrants. There are several paths to clearance.
H1B is only one component of the pipeline. Fun fact: someone with dual citizenship status by descent (India, China, Israel, etc) can also hold a US security clearance if a sponsor wishes to fund the pipeline. Once a person goes through the naturalization process and gets a seat at the table, they always divert funds to the pipeline.

I read the article a few days ago. It's a good read with many good observations. That said, the author's perspective seems to somewhat overlook some key aspects of a larger picture.
In particular, the western edu system complicity component is mostly absent. It may be helpful to instead view the outcomes through the lens of considering a well-designed pipeline that's been intentionally constructed to deliver a result. Strategic insertions are only one of the many critical components that make up the pipeline operation.
