It's the "I never thought Leopards would eat MY FACE" argument.
Programmers weren't bothered when they thought LLM's were only coming for Prose Writers, Middle Management weren't bothered when they thought AI was only going to reduce the size of the teams they managed, not Management themselves. People who don't live in areas where climate is already affected don't care about the Climate impact.

It's ALL about connection
It might have been warped into connection to achieve other means - selling things, or garnering attention, or spreading propaganda - but the internet is just a global fireplace we all sit around communicating with each other.
Sometimes were telling stories, other times shouting, other times creating together, but it all fills a basic need for interconnectedness

People creating and puching AI at teh highest levels are doing so becaues they want to remove the HUman Cost form whtever they want to achieve.

- Having to communicate demands
- Paying people
- waiting for people to be availble
- people not being availble 24/7
- explaining / justifying thier demands

LLM's don't need to know why you want homemade deadly Chemical X
AI Generated images don't ask why you'd want an image of X doing/ holding /in the style of Y
AI Girlfriends never require any of the friction that interacting with a Human does.
It's all results with (the illusion of) no effort. Or at least effort that is ~someone else's problem~

It's the same kind of phenomena that occured with Game of Thrones - as well as the astoturf Merchandising. I've never read the G. O. T. books and bounced off the series at end of season 1, but knew hardcore book fans as well as hardcore show fans and the infighting - as well as the No True Scotsman Fandom - was intense.
You could just see in real time the slide away from a willingness - by those in charge- to create something (anything) meaningful to Lets just milk this IP to death.

Chickpea curry.
5 hours in Slow cooker on medium or high if you want more of a stew and less of a curry (e.g. less water)
- 2 : Tablespoons of curry powder
Any curry powder will do
- 1 : 400 g tin of chickpeas (drained)
1 : 227 g can of chopped tomatoes
(you can use peeled plum as well if you like a more pulpy mixture)
- 25g (1oz) of creamed block coconut roughly chopped
(so half of box that is usually found on supermarket shelves)
Pair with rice or Nan to eat

Tonight, the Boyf and I watched Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.
It's the eighth (and final?) film in the franchise and we finished it about 3 hours ago.
That film is 170 minutes (approx than 3 hours) long.
The most remarkable thing - to me - is how much of it I've already forgotten.

Pocket the browser bookmarking service -that just happens to synch seamlessly with with Kobo devices - is being Discontinued by Mozilla.
The service will stop working in July of this year (2025) and users have until October to export any bookmarks before everything gets deleted.

When I feel the urge to write a negative review I'm always careful to state what didn't work *for me*, because one person's Trash is Another's Treasure.
I steer clear of Absolutes unless it's something objective like book being full of typos, or missing /misprinted chapters or with physical books poor quality paper/binding.
Some tropes/topics I bounce right off of & other readers think 'gimmie'. It's not name & shame as long as you dont make it a personal attack

Do love how this journalist breaks down why Sam Altman is full of shit.
The only thing they don't pick up on is that Blue Ink is used by the especially paranoid - it harks back to colour photocopying / scanning not really being practical so you could easily spot original vs copied material because the copy was always black.

Someone once said that (very generally), Star Wars appeals to prop makers because it's a scarcity universe - most things are lived in and grimy - whereas Star Trek appeals more to Engineers because it's set Post-scarcity and everything is shiny and lost of things are Scientifically Grounded/Feasible
So not just the Sci-Fi vs Sci-Fantasy divide, but the Aesthetics, Mechanicians/Machines and World Building

Did I just imagine this - does anyone have a link to this study ?
Apparently a teacher at a college (?) did a study that showed that students who use only AI to solve programming problems don't retain knowledge of nor understand what they've done.
The split the students into three groups one had to do everything themselves (plus textbooks I think?) One could search google for help and one could only use A.I. to solve the assigned problems
