these are materially worse in every way than both Facebook’s perv glasses and every previous attempt at a physical AI assistant, and I realize the bar is in hell
this exact same type of product didn’t take the market by storm when it was a pendant or some other wearable shit with a much higher rez camera that could feed what you’re looking at into an LLM
I’m not sure making it smaller and worse will do much other than make the act of using them much creepier

there’s a lot of money and influence being poured into making the linux kernel utterly reliant on a bit of software that’s clearly unfit for purpose. that’s why all this shit is happening so quick: anthropic, OpenAI, and palantair pouring money into the Linux foundation, linus doing his little AI booster interviews, the Linux foundation pivoting even further into AI, linus using an alt-right meme to justify the kernel’s pro-LLM policy, the systemic exposure of maintainers to these tools
this is an attack, and all the people who assigned themselves the job of protecting open source against attacks are welcoming the attackers in

they are fully aware that said laws disproportionately punish individual online creators. they must be aware of these things, as they are presenting themselves as experts on the downstream effects of age verification when they state that it’s just like an age gate that can easily be bypassed.
you must understand that the unfairness is the point. you must understand that you are the individual, marginalized online creator who will be punished. that is the point of all this.

by popular demand, here's an answer key for my fashtech vaguepost, in order of urgency.
the package repositories currently being taken over are RubyGems and NixOS' nixpkgs. it's quite well known that DHH, a Shopify board member, is behind the corporate takeover of RubyGems. he's also coordinating openly on Twitter with the defense contractor Anduril and other actors to ensure that nixpkgs meets an even worse fate. this is the culmination of a long project to make Nix fascist.

and what’s bizarre is reading posts like “oh the Wayland team knows what they’re doing, they worked on xorg!” and all I’ve really seen them practically do is wind down xorg and implement a supposed replacement that’s both fairly batshit in terms of design and doesn’t reliably do what xorg does
