I think we're talking about different kinds of difficulty. American ballots are very long because they hold a lot of separate races at the same time, even if each individual race is very simple. You are probably right that this makes the tabulation too time-consuming for a manual count.
I'm not sure that "complex" is the best word and that's what bothered me, but it's not worth getting into a dictionary war.

It's also an unnecessary distinction. Magic tricks are physics and mathematics too. LLMs are exactly that kind of trick.
"The mind is just math" doesn't mean "large language models can think".
They are emulating a tiny tiny part of the mechanism of thought, in a brutally mistaken way that doesn't generalize itself to actual reasoning.

I was trying to get my Termcap implementation for CP/M and DOS into Byte right about when they were switching from being a small systems magazine to being a big advertising magazine. All the "internal processes" are linguistic, and not even sophisticated linguistic processing, anything else is hallucinated by the researchers fooled by the "clever hans" effect.
All mammals have basically the same hardware. All behavioral differences are due to differences in the size and arrangement of the connections between the neurons.

I have been following this approach since the first steps in the '80s. I'm pretty clear on how it works.
Software is a metaphor, the connectome is obviously a different kind of construct than procedural code, but it is the connections, not the fact that it is built out of neurons, that determines the kind of reasoning and model construction that the human brain performs. You are looking at the implementation and ignoring the big picture.

Most human cognition is common to all mammals, even most of the frontal lobe is pre-linguistic. LLMs are ONLY linguistic. They are a clever hack repurposing a 1950s ERA model of how the visual cortex works to simulate the barest parody of linguistic processing. At the best you can say that they are implemented on something like a similar kind of processor, but the software, the neural connections and weights, is completely unrelated.

That is not the target user for this kind of product. Anyone for whom replicating a daughter board is "trivial" will have no more difficulty with a surface mount soldering job to repair or replace the USB port.
The key here is that if EU law requires this kind of user replaceable part, then everyone will benefit.

Sure, if they're a boutique DIY board that uses the Universal Daughterboard that's great, but most boards aren't that and replacing the daughterboard if the USB connector is damaged is as much of a push-up as replacing the PCB because Keychron or whoever doesn't sell parts.

Short of the kind of governmental control of computers like in Vinge's science fiction novel "Rainbow's End", in which even individual logic gates became part of a government controlled network, it's literally not possible to impose these kinds of controls when you can by a cigarette-box-sized computer you can use to control the process for under $40.
