🪟🦾🥈 Windows on Arm (aka aarch64-pc-windows-msvc) has now been promoted to tier 2 of CPython platform support.
Tier 3 has no response SLA to failures. Tier 2 requires breaking changes to be fixed or reverted within 24 hours, and failures block a release.
Tier 3 requires at least one core team member signed up to support the platform. Tier 2 requires at least two, and we have three here.

Philips' prototype was 11.5 cm in diameter, the diagonal of a cassette. Sony's was a more portable 10 cm. The story goes the Sony VP wanted Beethoven's 5th to fit, and the longest they found was a noisy mono recording from 1951 lasting 74 minutes 33 seconds. They agreed on 12 cm.
However, Philips already had a plant to manufacture 11.5 cm discs, and Sony did not. Changing the size meant Philips lost their headstart.

Those snakes are from the Hiekka Art Museum, as was this typewriter with separate uppercase and lowercase keys, and art deco furniture by Eliel Saarinen and Armas Lindgren.
Also went to the Tampere Art Museum, didn't take photos but the Man Yau exhibition was good.

The Windows build has been started.
The jobs with profile-guided optimisation (PGO) build once, then collect a profile by running the tests, and then build again using that profile, to see how "real" code executes and optimises for that.

(That's actually the second CI attempt, we had to update some script arguments following an Android test runner update.)
This build takes about half an hour.
I've also informed the Windows and macOS release managers about the tag and they will start up installer builds.
This takes a few hours, so I've got time to finish up the release notes.
PEP 101 is the full process, but much is automated and we don't need to follow it all manually.

Next up, merge and backport the final change to What's New in Python 3.14 to declare it latest stable.

Now start run_release.py, the main release automation script, which does a bunch of pre-checks, runs blurb to create a merged changelog, bumps some numbers, and pushes a branch and tag to my fork. It'll go upstream at the end of a successful build.

Helsinki airport tips:
If getting the I train from the city, get on the last carriage to optimise exit (I think second from last doors are usually best).
Take the first escalator up from the platform, then after the short tunnel walk, take the lift as it's faster than the big escalators.
The Alepa grocery store before security has lots of sandwiches and pastries.

Python 3.14:
We'll make the next release candidate (rc2) this Thursday, two weeks early, and add a rc3 on 2025-09-16.
We fixed a code generation bug that required the "magic number" to be increased for rc2. This means .pyc files compiled by rc1 can't be used in rc2 and will be recompiled.
The ABI isn't changing, and wheels built for rc1 should still work for rc2, rc3 and 3.14.x, but it's better to get this out for testing sooner.
