Wir alle kennen die Leuchtstift-Orgien, die einem das Gefühl geben, etwas gelernt zu haben. Aber diese Markierungen alleine haben nur einen kleinen Lerneffekt – wenn überhaupt. Es ist darum viel effektiver, Markierung mit eigenen Anmerkungen zu versehen. Welche Methoden sich bewährt haben und was die Wissenschaft dazu sagt, habe ich in meinem aktuellen Blogbeitrag zusammengetragen:

Eine Markierung hebt eine Textstelle hervor. Eine Annotation verbindet sie mit einem eigenen Gedanken, etwa als Randnotiz, Kommentar, Frage oder Verweis. Eine praktische Regel lautet deshalb: Ergänze wichtige Markierungen um mindestens einen eigenen Gedanken. Dafür reichen oft wenige Wörter. Entscheidend ist nicht die Länge der Notiz, sondern dass du mit der markierten Stelle gedanklich etwas machst.

Diese Woche ein Anfall von #Nostalgie im #Blog? Vielleicht. Aber eigentlich wende ich mich in meinem Beitrag genau gegen diese Lesart der Nostalgie und ihre Ausprägungen:
Die Freiheit, das Alte nicht aufgeben zu müssen ⌚
Ich trage fast jeden Tag eine mechanische Armbanduhr. Das ist, nüchtern betrachtet, keine besonders vernünftige Entscheidung mehr. Mein Smartphone zeigt die Zeit genauer an, mein Computer ebenfalls, und selbst innerhalb der Welt der Armbanduhren wäre eine einfache Quarzuhr punkto Genauigkeit technisch überlegen. Meine mechanische Uhr schafft es sogar, jeden Monat einige Minuten von der objektiven Zeit abzuweichen – ein Feature, das mein Smartphone erstaunlicherweise nicht bietet. Trotzdem trage ich sie. Nicht trotz ihrer Überholtheit, sondern gerade deshalb.

Ich merke, dass ich auf meinem #Blog in letzter Zeit eher essayistisch unterwegs bin und weniger Sachtexte schreibe. Vielleicht liegt es ja an meinem Alter? Denn genau darum geht es diese Woche:
Lernen hält nicht jung – aber es verändert, wie wir altern 🎓
Mit zwanzig lernte ich, um voranzukommen. Mit dreissig lernte ich, um beruflich relevant zu bleiben. Mit fünfzig stelle ich mir eine andere Frage: Hat Lernen vielleicht weniger mit Karriere zu tun als mit der Art, wie wir altern?
❓ Was, wenn Lernen gar nicht die Vorbereitung auf das Leben ist, sondern ein Teil des guten Lebens selbst?
Darüber, wie wir geistig altern, haben wir mehr Einfluss, als lange angenommen wurde. Das Gegenteil des geistigen Alterns ist nicht Jugendlichkeit. Es ist Neugier. Wer aufhört zu lernen, wird nicht alt. Er beginnt lediglich, sich zu wiederholen.

Die Idee, das Ganze statt als normalen Kalender bzw. Notizbuch mit Prompts als Abreisskalender zu veröffentlichen, finde ich bestechend. Das lässt einem die volle Freiheit, wie man mit den Prompts arbeiten will. Im Beitrag wird denn auch eine Familie erwähnt, die jeden Tag gemeinsam über die Prompts diskutiert.

OK, there's one thing bothering me regarding “Alien: Earth”: If you're on a decades-long deep space mission that requires cryo pods, how do you have cats on board the spaceship? Do they have their own little cryo pods? Or are they just semi-feral and evolve into a new species over time, like in “Red Dwarf”?
There is a red cat briefly seen on the Maginot. If I recall correctly, there is also a cat on the Nostromo. How?
I mean, sure, cats have historically been part of ship crews, but in space?

Hey, #fountainpen and #journaling people, I have a question for you:
I’m sure some of you also write #MorningPages. I started last year as part of a 30-day challenge and have been writing my three A4 pages five to six times a week ever since. I use a cheap Oxford college pad, but with their fountain pen-friendly Optik Paper.
Now, my question: What do you do with your Morning Pages? Do you go back and read them later (Cameron recommends waiting at least eight weeks)? Do you keep the notebooks? I’ve already filled four college pads but have never reread them and don’t intend to. That’s why I’m considering disposing of them while ensuring my privacy.
What’s your take on this?

In letzter Zeit beschäftigt mich die Frage, ob Notizen, Notizbücher, #PKM Software etc. ein „erweiterter Geist“ (extended mind) im Sinne Clarks & Chalmers sind, also eine Ausdehnung unserer Kognition in die (materielle) Welt. Oder ob es doch „nur“ Werkzeuge, also nicht zu unserem Körper gehörende Objekte sind, mit denen wir die Funktion unseres Körpers erweitern. Ungefähr das, was Serres mit der „Auslagerung des Kopfes“, die Auslagerung des Gedächtnisspeichers in ein (digitales) Werkzeug, bezeichnete.
Die Werkzeug-Theorie erscheint mir schlüssiger, da einfacher und naheliegender (Ockham). Aber ja, eine spannende Frage – für mich zumindest.
Wie seht ihr das so, die PKM und #Fountainpen Bubble hier im Fediverse? Oder ist das zu weltfremd? 😂

I use Quink cartridges in my Parker pens and, so far, Pelikan in all my other pens that take standard cartridges. Didn't encounter any problems so far, but I wanted to try a grey ink and the only brand I could readily buy was Kaweco. Any suggestions for Standard cartridges besides Waterman? Hey #fountainpen peeps, I have a question concerning #Kaweco ink cartridges: I bought some and I am less than happy with them. They dry out very fast and in every pen I tried the cartridges, the ink flow was subpar at best.
Was I just unlucky and got a bad batch or are they really that bad compared to Pelikan and other brands?
And yes, I use cartridges in my EDC pens, because I am lazy. Live with it 😅

So, I've been on #Bluesky for about 36 hours now, and had another Google+ moment: I suddenly realised, why I prefer #Mastodon to that blue butterfly thing. It's the mass of people talking endlessly about things I don't care at all. It was like this when I moved from the bird site to Google+. I think I talked about this before, but Mastodon feels like a cosy home with like-minded people compared to the noisy, busy streets of mass social media. There, I said it.
