Sometimes I just sit down and realise:<li>Tinkering with Linux eventually resulted in my dream job</li><li>Many FOSS tools I use are made by awesome individuals, most of them working on things on their free time</li><li>I trust my devices more now that I use these tools</li><li>Since I run tools like Nextcloud myself, I can trust that my data is not being misused</li><li>I have knowhow to help my friends and family to keep their data safe (sometimes I wish they would follow my advice but anyway lol)</li><li>Since I dont use corpo social media, none of the crap around it concerns me</li><li>I am just generally happier since I do not have worry about any of the techbro nonsense</li>
Makes me feel oddly sated. Calm.
Is any of it perfect? No. But I take these always over the user-hostile corpo solutions.

I see bunch of people trying Matrix due to Discord news, so:<li>Try out Cinny and Fluffychat instead of Element for more Discord like experience</li><li>Save the encryption passphrase thing your client gives you. </li><li>Feel free to experiment with encryption, but my best experience with it is in 1to1 chats (and i have my passphrase saved, which is not your password)</li>
Other than those things, it's been fine. Bit slow at times perhaps. But it sends and receives text. And cinny and fluffychat let you add stickers and custom emotes (unlimited and free :) )
Edit: this post is for DISCORD USERS, not you nerds following me. I dont care if you use two rocks and smoke signals to write perfect encrypted messages.

A lot of things i hear about linux now is less "seems like nerd shit" and more "i would like to try but im afraid of installing it."
Which is totally fair, even with guides the process can be very intimidating, especially for someone who doesnt know how computers *really* work.
I hope to run my own linux installation event someday.

It's totally fair to have problems with Linux systems. There is no perfect computer stuff. And the frustrations it bring are totally valid feelings. Just yesterday I had trouble streaming a game over Discord screensharing, sound didn't work when using browser, and the actual client just crashes. (Granted this is Discords fault!)
We can't solve everything immediately, a lot of us are volunteers with limited time and resources, and some problems are very edge-case.. But trust me, people try their best.
Still, I try to approach these problems people have with empathy and try my best to help, even if the frustrations are scary to read.
For users, I hope you can meet us devs in the middle: We are not a big evil corporation that doesn't listen. We're just bunch of passionate nerds.

The promo folk will explain more what they need specifically, I'm mostly a messenger.
It is volunteer work (so very likely no payment) and the artwork will have to have permissive license such as CC-BY-SA. And I understand for many artists that's a lot to ask.. But you never know if you don't ask right?

Python is my go-to language but I'd like something similar with more ergonomic packages and such.

I'm looking for 3D artists to make and rig me a model of my character in Half-Life 2 era graphical style: doesnt need to be super high poly or anything, but not lowpoly PS1 either. And doesn't have to match HL2 exactly, I just don't know how to explain the "not high poly not low poly" lol. I want the game to look like something from mid/late 2000s. Max Payne 2 is good example too.
Anyways, my budget is not the largest, but I can pay for it of course.
It will be used in a game I'm making.

Ah yes, the "personal aesthetic preferences" that are worked on together with multiple people and undergo bunch of reviews and scrutiny.
There are reasons for all of these changes: new users are coming to KDE land and when they see apps that have sliders and other things everywhere, they get overwhelmed. Yes, it's a real thing.
You're allowed to critique but "it ugly" is not good feedback. It doesn't help anyone to resolve anything.
We will not get it right on the first go and we need *actually good feedback* to iterate on things, not whatever this is. I tried my best to fix issues this status bar has with custom themes, it's not perfect and there's still work to do.
Anyway, I am so tired of these accusations.

I don't want security over usability, I want safety and usability over security.
It's not a spec. It's nothing but list of ideas and thoughts. It's nothing concrete. But this is something I would like to see.#
Super Simple Chat protocolA chat protocol where safety is first and security second. UX is the major driver.

"AI" is here to monetize the human insecurity.
Most of the time i see people using "AI" generated pictures, text, code, whatever.. they mention they are "not good enough" to make their own.
You don't have to be "good." You have to be *you.*
These tools are feeding on your insecurity. They're there to *monetize your insecurity.*
Many people are insecure. That is normal. You should not rely on magic machinations to wave your insecurity away. That way relies addiction to these tools, which will make your life more difficult when you dont use them.
So instead, make your own lil stick figure drawings. Make pixel art in 16x16 grid for icons. Write that text the best way you can. Iterate on things, ask for help.
The hurry to get things done is artificial. You can do it without the addiction to chatbots. Allow yourself to take time, instead of producing just for productions sake.
Trust yourself to find the answers and to make a thing.
You're way better than what the scum behind generative "AI" hype think about you.
Don't sell your insecurity and brush it off. Face the facts and work on it.
In art, authenticity, being yourself, creating things from *your* brain, using *your* own intelligence, is the main point. Not the quality of the finished piece. But *your piece.*
You're allowed to fail. To err is human. And that is what makes it art. The happy little mistakes.

Tested out CXX-Qt and Rust.
I could get used to this, I think. But for KDE apps I like to have Breeze theme integrated proper. It gets the QtQuick Controls styles, but not the widget styles. I'm likely missing something, or it's not implemented yet to the library.
(I only just now tried it a bit, made the example project and modified it.)

Poking around with Zen browser: It's a sensory overload.
There's so many buttons and things moving around. Animations everywhere. Everything is super "bouncy" or shaky or whatever. I never know what to expect when I press something, menus open in random places. When starting, there's unskippable animations and other annoyances.
Really frustrating to try to use and learn. I don't want my browser to be fluid simulation, I just want it to immediately go to the contents.
It's definitely a browser made for neurotypicals. Also, what is it with multiplatform apps made to look like they are running on Mac?

im using librewolf because i actually liked firefox as core product. i just dont like the mozilla part of it.
librewolf gives me that.
i know its not long term solution or whatever. not everything needs to be immediately solved, or can be.
im personally very interested in using smaller browsers like Angelfish or qutebrowser. but librewolf is what im settling with for now.

im fighting the good fight of bringing back some 3d-ish vibes on things, like having buttons be more pronounced and input fields a bit sunken. Though, this will likely never be the case with breeze. Maybe whatever next style we have, especially whenever Union is out and making themes is easier, I will likely try to make something of my own.

Back in IT-college if someone left their computer unlocked we took a screenshot of the desktop, rotated it 180 degrees, set it fullscreen and then used the gpu driver settings to virtually rotate the screen 180 degrees.
It caused so much confusion, it was beautiful.

when i got it back in 2007, it had win7 starter, lol. but it ran morrowind fine and could even run quake live back then.
i got it to play eve online when i was going to sweden, because eve had 24h limit on the skill training back then lmao.
it worked! i couldnt really undock but i could chat and modify my skills. i did fly around a bit but it was very choppy.

i really want 10" netbook/laptop that is 64bit
mine is 32bit and while it works for some things, i cant run some apps that are only 64bit on it :(
i dont care that much if its very old or not powerful enough to run most modern things. for me, the fun comes from trying to get the old thing to run as many modern things as possible.
i've got openMW run on my 32bit netbook, but only in single digit frames.. well, seconds per frame.
but i find that kind of tinkering really fun!
