Yes, you can own a little of the network if you become an advocate for it, but the only ones with a real stake currently are those who build tools which may scale as monetisable services later.

I am absolutely convinced of this.
Today, I see virtually zero new stories emerging. Not from conferences, not from educators, not from companies, not from builders. Not even from writers.
Problem ➡️ solution is NOT a story.
No characters. No struggle. No happily ever after.
... no one cares about your product, service, or app.
Most people in the world are not economists, developers, or even realists.
They only care when something hacks their emotions.
Give them a good story, and you make them care.
Yes, we must build, but without stories, we are just idealists writing code for solutions that will never be implemented.

Day 751 of trying to change my address in Spain
(this is not an exaggeration)
WTF happened?
For most of this period, I was waiting for the sellers of my property (6 people) to complete various paperwork with the town hall. This allowed them to register their ownership after inheritance, before the property passed to me.
I owned the property as soon as I bought it, but local authorities ha it registered to the deceased until all paperwork was done.
A few months ago, I was finally able to register it as my own. Then I had to pay the backtaxes on the property. Joy.
Anyway, I've been trying to register it as my primary address.
There are two ways to do this:
1. Get an appointment in person, bring 6 separate pieces of paper, and pray that the civil cervant feels like doing their job.
Last time I did this it took 7 visits to the government building and 2 phone call. Also not a joke.
2. Submit the paperwork online.
I went for option 2. Sounds easy, right?
Well, it took 2 hours of research to find the right portal, logins, and documents. 3 hours trying to submit the form, and no joy.
It needs electronic certificates and auto-signing software that I can't use on my mobile phone or computer.
I asked a developer friend for help.
It took us 2 hours to submit the form. Done!
But wait.
The process usually takes 4-6 weeks to approve. (Why???)
I waited.
Yesterday, I logged in to see that one of the forms the text said I DIDN'T need was 'pending submission'. I'd have to submit it.
I filled in the form (asking 10-20 questions to AI to help me find the right codes and numbers).
Unable to submit. Same problem with the autosigning software.
Sigh.
I'll get a fucking appointment in person and waste another morning on this.
Nope. No appointments available.
You have to log in on Friday morning at exactly 8am to reserve an appointment.
The saga continues.
And now I've spent 20 minutes writing about this insanity.
TL;DR
You need a PHD in administration to change your address in Spain.
I do not have a PHD. I only have PTSD.
Delete the bureaucracy.
Delete the state.

It's been a year since I wrote this piece for @nprofile…xcp3.
The last 12 months in the Bitcoin space has been a whirlwind of sentiment changes, AI developments, and new tools.
Realistically, if you want opportunities in the space, you have to build things or carve them out yourself, and that comes down to networking.
Meeting people on video calls and in person is SO important. It builds trust and goodwill in a way nothing else can.
With that said, there are almost infinite opportunities in Bitcoin because it's an undeveloped ecosystem with a lot of free real estate.
Compared to industries with decades of growth in normieland, there are few people with deep skillsets outside of software development.
Clients and coworkers are forthright. They do what they say, and they don’t mess you around. We just do things.

Over the last 5 years, I've been in a 'Lads' Book Club' with 4 friends.

All 5 of us are writers or actors, and all are heavy readers. Still, it's great to approach each session with no agenda, no posturing, no fear of saying the wrong thing and getting cancelled. We value stories and characters from all walks of life, even if we are all White 40-something men.

My favourites books from the last few years:
1. Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson.
Beautiful court room drama with WWII historical context set in a fictional island in the PNW.
2. Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
A brilliant re-telling of David Copperfield set against the backdrop of the Deep South opiod epidemic.
3. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
An understated slow burn with impeccable plotting told over decades of imprisonment in Soviet Russia.

Why am I writing this?
In the hope it'll prompt a few nostriches to read one of these books, or better yet, join forces and discuss the meaning of stories with other likeminded people.
No matter how many AI agents we build, human-centric fiction still has a place at the heart of our world.

CHAPTER 19 - AFTERMATH

Here’s a summary of my learnings from posting my 18-part writing-life story across several platforms.
REACTION:
This is the first time I’ve shared my life through writing (apart from some pretty awful early blogs).
All comments and reactions came from people I already knew. It felt positive to offer writerly advice, share my wins and losses with others, and reconnect with friends. It seems the key to being happy with the reception of your writing is to completely ignore reach, numbers, and metrics.
DISTRIBUTION:
Let’s talk about the reach, numbers, and metrics — ha ha.
I posted across Substack (notes and posts), LinkedIn (posts and articles), Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Nostr (notes and articles), and StackerNews.
Substack was very disappointing. No real engagement or conversation.
I feel it has become a closed-source echo chamber for growth marketers and wannabe writers.
LinkedIn brought a few comments from old friends and contacts. Often, my posts were only served to 100 people, despite me having 25,000 followers on the platform. It seems if you are not hyper-specific on a topic, posting is just not worth it.
Facebook — Quite a few friends and contacts followed the story, but making posts ‘public’ (not just for friends) was an error. One of the posts with a swear word triggered Meta’s useless AI filters and my account was permanently blocked. I managed to restore it, but lost two business pages with 1,000+ followers and my Instagram account (600 followers) forever. Fuck ‘em.
I gave up posting on X because formatting threads took too long, and I got no reaction.
Nostr — I got little reaction, but it’s a nice addition to my profile having more longform articles there. On all platforms, long-form proved the only way to serialize the 18 posts and ensure readers could catch up when they missed a chapter.
StackerNews: This platform is a forum with Bitcoin payments embedded. I received my largest numbers of comments, intelligent questions, and support here, all from a dozen or so highly engaged writers and artists.
REWARDS:
This project had no commercial goal, not even ‘networking’ or leading people towards becoming clients.
In fact, sharing so many losses and blots on my record probably lost me some credibility as a ‘high-ticket ghostwriter’. Perhaps it gained me some trust though. All writing is curated — we choose what to include and exclude — but I tried to be more candid and avoid ego-inflation.
Surprisingly, I did earn around $100 in Bitcoin on Nostr and StackerNews from supporters. This shows the power of building a small community on shared values and proof-of-work (time investment). For me, value-for-value, internet-native money, and micro payments represents a much better path for creative projects than subscriptions, selling fake scarcity, merchandising, begging for coffees, downloadable products, email lists, advertising clicks, affiliate sales, and any other substitute for exchanging real value through words.
3 LEARNINGS:
You don’t have to pick one platform. Going wide helps as platforms still dominate the time we spend online.
Don’t try to please algorithms. It’s a losing game.
The only algo you can please is one you built yourself.
Spend time on the platforms you care about, the ones with honest incentives.
Don’t chase social media ‘audiences’ (even the ones you built yourself). The value is gone. Their profiles have been stripped for parts by Meta, Microsoft, and Elon. Your words just made their data a tiny bit more valuable for massive corporations.
Growth strategies are a scam. Legacy socials are supernovas, waiting to implode under their own weight. Just write what you want and share it honestly.
Keep it short.
Use visuals.
Create a brand touch point.
And be genuine when you interact online.
That’s my plan, and I’m sticking to it.
