Thought I would share my Based Points™ (points-based) system for improving my long-term health and fitness.
My goal is to maintain mobility, cardio, and muscle mass into my 50s and 60s (am 41 now). I'm in worse shape than when I was 30, but overall OK.
Like just about everyone, I struggle with overeating, apathy, vices like alcohol, and lack of routine.
When I was in my mid 20s, I developed a points-based system to motivate me to exercise more. I found it helped me, so I amended is for this, my fifth decade on Earth.
I've adapted it to include other elements because now I sit on my arse at home all day at work. Plus, my metabolism ain't what it used to be.
OK, here goes.
**BASED POINTS**

* Earn points to meet selected target (e.g., 2, 4, or 6 points)
* Do better than last week's total.
* Continue every week.

* Walk (>10k steps) 0.5
* Hike (>20k steps) 1.5
* Yoga (1hr) 1

* Padel (90m) 1
* Run (40m+) 1
* Fast (24 hrs) 1.5

* Walk <5k steps -0.5
* Eat before 12pm or after 8pm -0.5

**Progress**
Check out the whiteboard I keep my fridge to keep track of my points.
This week, I did pretty well with 4.5 points.
My top goal is usually 6 points.
4 points is decent.
2 is meh.
0 is a fail.
Minus points is an EPIC FAIL.
My average is about 3.5.

**Learnings**
1. This system is adaptable for anyone, based on their needs.
2. Keeping score with a whiteboard on your fridge is key. You must physically write the score each day.
3. The system is flexible, you can add in targets or minus points and amend them to make them harder (don't amend them to make them easier).
4. If you fall off the wagon, or go crazy drinking at a conference, just start again. Earn more points the next week.
Overall, it's something that I found sustainable. It's not for getting rock hard abs, marathon training, or losing 50lbs. Just aiming to keep on the straight and narrow.
After 4 months so far, I can't say I'm crushing it. I have maintained weight, shape and fitness through the ups and downs.
But I do make healthier daily choices. I don't have late night feasts, I rarely skip the gym or yoga, I drink alcohol free beer.

After almost 10 years as a freelance educator, editor, and writer, I am pretty much unemployable.
My moral compass stops me from hitting 'apply' to any fiat jobs.
I wouldn't be able to avoid calling 'bullshit' 20 times a day.
In that time, I have applied for exactly 2 jobs in Bitcoin.
I love the variety of working with different clients - freedom tech apps, books about Nostr, consultants, mining companies, and more.

A Lodging of Wayfaring Men by Paul Rosenberg, in short:
1. A group of programmers and businessmen get tired of asking permission to live. They build an encrypted marketplace where anyone can trade, publish, and organize anonymously. No names, no jurisdiction, nothing to subpoena. Within weeks, the market has its ten-thousandth customer. The year is 2002.
2. The state notices the only way it can: tax receipts stop matching the economy. A classified memo admits someone has built "a fully-encrypted form of electronic cash" and that the agency isn't sure what an e-cash file would even look like. The state can only fight what it can see.
3. The FBI agent assigned to hunt the founders is written as a decent, intelligent man (which is rare in political fiction). The book makes you watch him slowly as you realize he was sent to destroy the best people he has ever studied. By the end of the book, he is on their side.
4. The founders never fire a shot. They win by being useful: arbitration instead of courts, restitution instead of prisons, entry gated by trust alone — if no one trusts you, you can't get in. Every merchant who joins is one more person the old world has lost, and no army can invade a market it can't find.
5. The cost is real, and the book refuses to hide it. Opting out means losing friends who think you're a criminal and carrying the moral weight that citizens never feel because they've outsourced it. "If you want to be great, you must be willing to be called evil."
6. Originally published in 2002: six years before the bitcoin launch, nine before Silk Road. Encrypted cash, anonymous markets, reputation as collateral, exit as strategy. The author published it all anonymously, and reality plagiarized him.
7. Rosenberg's message is that the state doesn't need to be defeated. Institutions die when the people they feed on walk away. The title is from Jeremiah: "Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging of wayfaring men, that I might leave my people and go from them." Millions are living that verse right now. Most of them have never heard the book's name.

Still recovering from having to attend my building management meeting last night.
Supposed to be a 30-minute meeting to approve simple maintenance budget via a vote.
It was 30 minutes of waiting
45 minutes of 12 people all speaking at once (MAX VOLUME) with no one in charge.
15 minutes of looking at the numbers.
All could be done remotely, but Canarians suddenly turn into career politicians when allocating their 10 euro per month fees (we literally pay 10 euro per month).
Oh, and this takes place in a sweaty corridor with no seating and hellish acoustics.
Absolute nightmare to attend.
0/10 would not recommend.

For Ebooks you can use Zeus and deliver the content automatically via email.
Print on demand for sats doesn't exist to my knowledge, so for physical copies you have these options:
Partner with American and European distributors and send them a print run for fulfilment.
Sell in person at meetups and conferences.
Sell via your website (e.g. BTC pay or just a Lightning address and form), then and personally mail the book.
The issue is that customers (even bitcoiners) are used to fake shipping costs. Amazon makes a loss shipping books for free. When confronted with a $10 shipping cost for a book, bitcoiners just run back to Amazon.

To my mind, we don't need books which explain what it is, and why it's necessary. We already have enough.
However, we do need more nuanced takes. More narratives that connect Bitcoin to freedom.
I'd like to read more books on privacy, freedom tech, homesteading, sovereign health, stoicism, self-improvement, and financial education.

In fact, I don't agree with this. For me, the network itself is a technological solution to the problem of money.
Electricity, the aeroplane, the internet: these are not stories either.
Yes, we all relate to the myth of Satoshi, but without revealing his identity, his character, Satoshi is simply a mirror to ourselves.
Still, on the next page, Roger writes, "You align with a story, an ideology, that enables you to stand on the shoulders of giants, just like Satoshi."
Profound.
Personally, I think we need more exploration of Bitcoin stories - ones with human agency, three-dimensional characters, and moments of epiphany and change.

For freelancers like me, Bitcoin largely solves payment issues.
There is no 'it should be arriving soon'.
You either sent the money or you didn't.
I'm testing out Bitlance.work. Seems interesting as it provides escrow to ensure there is no waiting for payment.
Bitcoin deserves platforms which solicit high standards of work, not where we outbid each other in a race to the bottom.
Let's see what happens in the space.

Standing in line at the post office two hours ago.
The woman in front of me hands over a 50 euro note.
"I want to send money to the Dominican republic."
The clerk takes the money.
"This will take three working days."
The woman nods.
He taps on his computer. "They'll receive 3,050 pesos."
The woman shrugs and says "OK."
The actual exchange rate is 3,412.
12% to send money.
12%!
The fact she accepted the rate shows a) blind faith, b) a lack of understanding of how forex works, or that c) she has no choice.
It's usually option c).
Her family member probably has no account or the banking infrastructure is even more vulture-like than to take 12% to send money across a border.
The transaction took so long it wasn't even finished when I collected my package and left.
Name, ID, profession, reason for sending the money, and she had to ring the recipient (who wasn't picking up).
We can create functioning businesses with AI in less than 3 days. But that relative in the Caribbean won't receive a penny until Thursday.
When someone says Bitcoin has no use case, I will tell them this story.
The only thing those people lacked was the understanding of how to send a Lightning transaction (instant and a few cents in fees).
I've also heard about Venezuelans and Cubans here giving literal bills to a mule, and hoping it reaches their family.
Imagine how people can thrive when they aren't trapped in a world where this is normal.

Sometimes I crave a 'normal' job:
A comfortable salary, 3 meetings a day, some spreadsheets, emails, and a lot of pretending to be busy and being missed off at Janice from accounts.

Absolutely agree that the vast majority of future Bitcoin users will not self custody or even know how Bitcoin works. That's OK.
As well as simple fintech solutions for the masses, we also need to show them why they should move away from fiat and towards btc.
